Guest bluecat Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 Hi I submitted my site around 4 months ago and again 3 weeks ago. Just wondering what the status was? http://dmoz.org/Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Stock/Royalty_Free/ http://www.stockphotoasia.com Thanks, Colin Southwell webmaster@stockphotoasia.com
Meta windharp Posted February 20, 2003 Meta Posted February 20, 2003 Hmmm... Your submission dates 06/Feb/2003 - keep in mind that every resubmission overwrites any old one that is waiting. It's waiting there in a medium sized queue. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Guest bluecat Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 Wow, that was quick windharp! Thats for the prompt reply. I will ask again in a month or so if it is not listed. Thanks again, Colin
Guest bluecat Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 Its been a couple of months now since my last status request and still no sign of a listing for www.stockphotoasia.com. Can you give me an update and tell me roughly where abouts I am in the que? thanks and best regards, Colin
dfy Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 It's still there I'm afraid, waiting for an editor to come along and review it.
Guest bluecat Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 Thanks for the update. Can you give me an idea how many sites are in front of mine for review? thanks, Colin
motsa Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 Editors are not required to review sites in chronological (and I'd bet that most don't) so there really is no "front" or "back" of the queue. Any count, therefore, would be meaningless in terms of how long it might take you to be listed.
Guest bluecat Posted April 27, 2003 Posted April 27, 2003 Wow, that’s interesting news. I would ask is this policy fair and equitable? Presumably that means that a site, for whatever reason, may never actually get around to being reviewed. I guess I had always believed that sooner or later my site would get to the front of the queue and I just had to wait until this occurred -- that there was a timeline associated with a site review. This seems not to be the case. I must say, your comments have disheartened me somewhat now. Colin www.stockphotoasia.com
Meta hutcheson Posted April 27, 2003 Meta Posted April 27, 2003 Yes, it is fair to the volunteer editors. We don't try to make them do anything they don't want to do...So long as they do something good, and don't do harm, we are grateful. Yes, it is more than fair to web surfers, for whose benefit we are volunteering. Demonstrably, it is the most effective way to build a comprehensive directory of sites of general interest. Yes, it is more than fair to webmasters, who don't have to submit a site AT ALL to have it reviewed. Now, you ask: would it be nice to be able to get more information back to site submitters, most of whom are, after all, also trying to help us? Yes, it would. That's why these forums are here. But right now staff has higher priorities, like the server issues. (And most site submittals are spam, so we have to be careful about what information is given out. A technological solution will not be easy.) Or: would it be nice for editors who are concerned about long waits for review (yes, there are such editors!) to be able to find long-overdue submittals? Yes. Editors have asked for that, and may even get it someday.
Guest bluecat Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 Hi, Just wondered if there was any movement regarding my listing. It has not appeared yet in the directory so I presume it is still in the que. Couple of questions: - Has there been any movement in the que since I last enquired? - Do I have a better chance if I make a second submission to a different but related category? Any help would be appreciated. regards, Colin www.stockphotoasia.com
Meta kokopeli Posted July 18, 2003 Meta Posted July 18, 2003 Please see NO STATUS CHECKS THIS WEEK , you can bump this thread after the upgrade is complete and editors can again access the editor side of ODP.

Meta hutcheson Posted September 3, 2003 Meta Posted September 3, 2003 Reviewed and listed back in June. Someday ("Real Soon Now") it will be visible in the public pages. It's already in the RDF, which means next time Google (et. al.) updates their directory, it will appear there. We don't know when either of thse events will happen, but they should happen "globally" -- that is, next time you can see an update to that category, all the pending changes will appear.
Guest bluecat Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 That's great news, I do appreciate the support, Thanks again, Colin Southwell www.stockphotoasia.com
