However, I once signed up to be a DMOZ editors and for a year after submitting various sites to my category, following strict guidelines, I was mysteriously kicked out. After e-mailing other editors and requesting various times, I was never given an answer as to why I was omitted. It is "Search Engine Results Placement" that is being accomplished. Hence the more accurate terms "SERP Professional" or "SERP Optimizer" or (in a less charitable mood) "SERP perp."

Google has a page on their site referring both to ethical and unethical SEOs. And for motsa, the term also is used in the form: "My site is well SEOed for the key search terms". SEO is not just a profession, but a technique that webmasters who care about their site's search engine placement use as standard practice. I'm not a professional SEO, nor have I ever paid one. However, my 2 amateur sites are very well SEOed. One of them on Google is coming up at the moment #1 and #2 on search for the trademark name owned by a multimillion dollar pharmacetical company, ahead of their #3 and #4 position behind me. This is because this company obviously never hired an SEO. Proved by the fact that while they registered the .com for their trademark, they foolishly left unregistered the .org, which I bought and put up a site badmouthing them. <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

Guest rfgdxm Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Right alpine, as the only thing that can be optimized by the tweaking of the code on one website is the positioning of that site relative to others on a search engine. The term for those who work for search engines to try and get the best results are the algo coders. The 2 sides aren't totally at odds. Those who code search engine algos do so on the assumption that webmasters will create sites in a way that search engines can determine what they are about, and thus use that as a basis for ranking. Search engines largely base their algos on what used to be standard "basics" that could be found in webmastering texts. This goes back to the day where websites were pretty much text based. I see tons of sites today with lots of visually exciting flash content, graphics etc. designed by website design pros for clients who think that what is important is to have a site that is visually apealling to the surfer. Unfortunately, search engine spiders could not care less about how pretty the site looks. The SEOs are called in when the company doesn't realize why the fancy looking site they paid good money for is unfindable in the search engines. SEOs are the folks who teach clients and site designers that the WWW ain't TV. The irony is that between the lousy flash trash site designers on one side, and unethical SEOs on the other, they are actually increasing the importance of the ODP. In the early days of the WWW directories tended to be more important because the search engine algos back then often gave poor results for searches. Directories by their nature categorize by content. Today, because these sites designed on visual appeal are hard for search engines to figure out, it takes a human editor of a directory to be able to categorize them. And, while search engines can be fooled by lots of doorway pages and articficially crosslinked sites, human editors can spot these.

Meta orlady Posted February 24, 2003 Meta Posted February 24, 2003 FTR, that list of IP addresses includes the servers (DNS, POP3, and SMTP) used by VSNL, but it apparently does not include other IPs assigned to VSNL customers while they are connected to the web. Whois lookups indicate that VSNL also controls 219.64.0.0 - 219.65.255.255 , 203.197.0.0 - 203.197.255.255 , and 203.199.0.0 - 203.199.255.255 , for example.

Its just a possibility of finding out - if the IP address string matches from where I got resigned to any one from where I used to edit... Regards, Umesh

If you have a Windows then most likely you a special Sub7 unreleased trojan by Mobman.. this trojan allows special notification (as in 2.2) which had ICQ Paging notification to allow the hacker or the scammer access to your PC. It sounds to me as if when ever you log on the person finds out your ip and the random port number to connect on and he opens up a keylogger or a RAS password monitor which views the programs you have open to see the password included. Go into your Regedit (start>run> type in regedit and hit ok) go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and go to software and once you click on the + go into Microsoft, then to windows in there it should show a Run a Run Once and a Run Once X.. go into the Run and check there first. IF you see something that doesn't even look like its a word (ie: jckeue483) remove it immediatly then if something says like Backdoor or RunDLL64 (which doesn't even exist) remove that too (any xupiter or LOP programs are to be removed as they are common undetectable active x backdoors like the common godfinger sort of one). -Darren

RESOURCE ZONE works <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> As for that testimony part, I had given him information on what he can do to make his site accepted in DMOZ... I suggested him that whatever is in his book -- (SEO help and tutorials) explain it on the site/ make the site informative and not just plain eBook site full of sales messages. Well, he did that and his site then got accepted… As for the thread followers – I am a professional SEO but only people who have worked with me know about it…I knew that no one will call me up from DMOZ/ nor bother to really check whether I have/had any professional affiliation being an Editor (even as a professional SEO and worked with the company Enfusen – I never gave it any listing in my category) But the other company PageTraffic was the one, which had a listing… This was due to the “Save this password in your password list” feature, which I used accessing the account from my office desk at PageTraffic I really enjoyed being an editor for DMOZ, and have learned ONE important thing in life….
