downguy Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 Hello Dmoz, This is my first post. Thank you for making such a quality directory. I have read through your stance on an editor having an affilation with a site in a category he/she would like too edit. Your stance as I understand is that it isn't looked down on because you would be an expert of that subject but you do look at these applications alot closer. I see why this is needed too make sure your not opening the system for abuse. I am posting because I have submitted an app 6 times and have been rejected(This is not a status check :-). One reviewer was nice and made some comments so I revised my app. I am very passionate about the category I am submitting for and am affilated with a site that falls under it. Now here's my question: When you get through the application and everything looks good(ie: would accept if wasn't affilated) but there is affilation what things in that aspect alone do you look at and for when making a decsion for accepting or rejecting an application for editor? -downguy
jimnoble Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 what things in that aspect alone do you look at and for when making a decsion for accepting or rejecting an application for editor?Metas are human beings and evaluate each application on all of its merits/demerits. It's not very different to evaluating CVs when recruiting in real life. It's not done by formula and, being human beings, different metas are certain to apply different standards. Don't fret about it. We're primarily looking for competence, integrity and attention to detail. If you can demonstrate all of those and you've chosen a category suitable for a trainee, go ahead and apply in confidence. This FAQ has lots of helpful advice.
downguy Posted December 19, 2004 Author Posted December 19, 2004 Thank you for the good advice. What do you personally look for that displays integrity via an application? I would think that integrity is something that need to be shown over time. Also this is the category I selected, please let me know if this is suitable for a trainee: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Bedroom/Bedding/Down/ (it has 35 listings so it does come under the 50 you recommended) Thank You -downguy
