Guest laurent Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 hi, my site : http://www.laurent-askienazy.com/ is in http://www.dmoz.org/World/Fran%e7ais/Arts/Arts_plastiques/Photographie/Photographes/ its a french site but its a photography site, there are no need to understand french, can it be accepted too in http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Photography/Photographers/Solo_Exhibitions/Fine_Art/ ? thanks.
motsa Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Re: photography site No. The buttons and what text there is on the site is in French so it can only be listed in World:Français.
Guest laurent Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Re: photography site and if i make my index in french and in english, its will be ok ? for the other pages, we dont need to understand, its just a photography book... i can translate all, or remove all text, but its juste title of the photographs...
brmehlman Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Re: photography site I'm not speaking with any authority here since this is pretty far from the areas where I usually edit, but my opinion is that you wouldn't have to translate or remove the titles of the photographs to qualify for a listing in the English language portion of the directory.
Guest rfgdxm Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 Re: photography site I'd suggest that you make the site bilingual. However, if it were me editing I'd allow the photo titles in French. However, the editor there may not.
Guest Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Re: photography site At least the index should be in English. ...but its juste title of the photographs... Sometimes the title is important to understand the meaning of a photograph (or a painting, sculpture etc.). In such cases it may be preferable to translate the title, like i.e. for your 'Femme sous l'eau' or 'Tete reduite'. Other titles like 'Main' or 'Coin' have a completely different meaning in English and French. This is just a suggestion, but if you want to increase your chances of being listed in Photography you may want to take it into consideration.

Guest laurent Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Re: photography site At least the index should be in English. ok, i have translate my index, should i submit again my site ?
motsa Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Re: photography site As I mentioned in my earlier post, your menu buttons (on the menu.html page) should be offered in french and english in order to be considered a multilingual site. And I personally would translate the photo titles (if you keep the titles, that is).
Guest Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Re: photography site Oops, I should have been more precise. I didn't think of index as 'index.html', but meant the whole site navigation which includes 'menu.html'. Sorry, my bad, Motsa is right about that one. <img src="/images/icons/crazy.gif" alt="" /> And yes, translating the titles is preferred (if you want to keep them). You do not consider them to be important, but the editor who will review your site does not know that.
Guest laurent Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Re: photography site dammit... i will may be be replace the button "couleurs" and "noir et blanc" with a picture of color separation and a gray scale.. but i think people who are interested in photography can undestand this terms, but i may be wrong...
Meta hutcheson Posted February 25, 2003 Meta Posted February 25, 2003 Re: photography site For very simple menu items like "color" and "black and white", it is reasonable to use the "bilingual _page_ approach: just include both French and English terms on the same menu button.
Guest laurent Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Re: photography site ok, i have translate the button in the menu.html page for "color" and 'black & white" ... what a have to do now ? i dont know if i should submit again..
motsa Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Re: photography site I'd go ahead and submit it. It looks bilingual to me, though the French-only titles under the photos may influence the reviewing editor's opinion (you might want to put an English translation under each photo).
Guest laurent Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 Re: photography site hi, i would like to know the status of http://www.laurent-askienazy.com/ Thanks
motsa Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 Re: photography site You're still waiting in http://dmoz.org/Arts/Photography/Photographers/Solo_Exhibitions/Fine_Art/A -- you should probably go ahead and make those image titles bilingual as that may help your acceptance (you might also want to make the alt tags for the images bilingual and your "Liens" button is only French).
Guest laurent Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 Re: photography site how many site are waiting before mine in this category ?
Meta kokopeli Posted March 27, 2003 Meta Posted March 27, 2003 Re: photography site There are just a handful of sites in this alphabar category waiting review (the other alphabar categories of fine art each have sites waiting also), it doesn't really matter what order they are in as the editor is in no way obligated to sort or review in a specific order.
Guest laurent Posted April 15, 2003 Posted April 15, 2003 Re: photography site How can i know if the editor of my category has seen my site ?
motsa Posted April 15, 2003 Posted April 15, 2003 Re: photography site You ask here. But you have to leave at least a month between status update requests (i.e. come back after April 27th).
Guest laurent Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 Re: photography site ok, thanks.. i ll be back .. <img src="/images/icons/smirk.gif" alt="" />
Guest laurent Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 Re: photography site hi, we are the 29 so i ask again .. but the category http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Photography/Photographers/Solo_Exhibitions/Fine_Art/ doesnt seem to be uptaded very often ..
lachenm Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 Re: photography site Still waiting, I'm afraid, and still with a handful of other sites in the "A" subcategory (but remember, there are a lot of letters in the alphabet, so even small numbers of unreviewed in each letter can add up quickly). Sorry there isn't better news.
Guest laurent Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 Re: photography site hi, i still waiting, but i dont see any new sites in all the category solo exhibitions..
Meta tuisp Posted June 14, 2003 Meta Posted June 14, 2003 Re: photography site Your site is still waiting in the cat motsa and lachenm indicated. <img src="/images/icons/smirk.gif" alt="" />
