Guest Andrew111 Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 A referral from DMOZ showed up in my logs last weekend, but I haven't seen my site listed yet(I manually checked the category since I know the search isn't always updated). I submitted to Regional:North America:United States:Government:Military:Army:Education and Training I also submitted to the military section for Iowa since I thought my site fit into both categories, which I hope is okay? Anyway, thought I'd see where it was moved to or why it wasn't listed Thanks in advance.
Guest dalguard Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 It was listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Iowa/Localities/D/Dubuque instead of Regional/North_America/United_States/Iowa/Government/Military The submission in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Government/Military/Army/Education_and_Training/ is still waiting. That queue is very short.
Guest Andrew111 Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Thanks for the info. I was hoping to add a little more information about the site in the description, but when I try the "update URL" it tells me "You must submit this form from the Open Directory site." I'm not sure why I'm getting that error, as it's impossible not to be on the site when you're submitting the URL
motsa Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Hmm, I had no problem submitting an update request from http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Iowa/Localities/D/Dubuque/ . Is that the exact URL you were on when you clicked "Update URL"?
Guest Andrew111 Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 I didn't have a problem accessing the Update URL form, I got that error when clicking Update URL after filling ot the form with an updated description.
Guest Andrew111 Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 I just tried updating the URL again and it worked How long does it usually take for someone to approve an update?
motsa Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 Assuming it gets approved at all, it could take anywhere from minutes to months.
Meta windharp Posted February 26, 2003 Meta Posted February 26, 2003 Its added to the normal "new sites" queue, but markes as an Update request. So it depends on the editors editing there. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
rwkat Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 Andrew - I processed your update request in Regional/North_America/United_States/Iowa/Localities/D/Dubuque/. (I was cruising by ) I'm curious to know why you believe your site also belongs in Regional/North_America/United_States/Government/Military/Army/Education_and_Training instead of Regional/North_America/United_States/Government/Military/Army/Recruiting ?
Guest Andrew111 Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 I was actually debating whether to put it in education and training or recruiting. You're right, it would fit better in that category.....I was just thinking that since it catered more toward just providing information to people considering the Army, it would be considered as a type of education for them. I should have put more thought into where to submit them, sorry about that
Guest Andrew111 Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Any updates? I decided to inquire again since the education and training cat I submitted to has lost its editor in the past few weeks, which explains why I haven't been listed yet even though the cat has a short queue. Like was mentioned above, it probably does fit better in the recruiting category, although that category has no editor either.
uzs980 Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 I have just moved your submission to Regional: North America: United States: Government: Military: Army: Recruiting, where it is the only one waiting for review now.
Guest Andrew111 Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 Would I be accepted as an editor to this category if I give this as a reason: "To be honest, I applied to edit this category because it looks like it will take years for my site to be added I'd like to point out that this category could be greatly expanded to include the recruiting companies, battalions, and individual recruiting stations that have their own web sites. I'd be willing to take on this task." Would I be accepted with that reason?
Meta windharp Posted April 13, 2003 Meta Posted April 13, 2003 Hrm... If thats the only interesting thing you give, probably not. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
