dwightski Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 Please let me know the status of http://www.powayrestaurants.com, submitted to http://dmoz.org/Regional/NorthAmerica/UnitedStates/California/Localities/P/Poway Thank you
oneeye Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 Try http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Localities/P/Poway/ (missing underscores). Sorry, your suggestion has been rejected.
dwightski Posted December 26, 2004 Author Posted December 26, 2004 RE: Site rejection www.powayrestaurants.com Thank you for your response. If I may ask, was there any particular reason? Dwight
spectregunner Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 We don't give specific reasons here -- they usually turn into something nasty. I can tell you, though, as a Regional editor (not in California though) that the vast majority of declined submissions are due to lack of unique content. (This, of course, excludes spam). The barrier is quite high for directories, since everyone and their mother is trying to produce web directories of one sort or another, and any directory must have a tremendous amount of content that cannot be found anywhere else on the web.
dwightski Posted December 27, 2004 Author Posted December 27, 2004 re: www.powayrestaurants.com Thanks again for your reply. We will continue our current plan then. It is our goal to add the interviews we conduct with the restaurant owners and add menus from the local restaurants in Poway. My wife and I have been trying hard to be accepted into various directories. It seems we are being readily rejected for one reason or another. (Too commercial, not enough unique content etc.) If we have these interviews in place, considering that this content is unique, would it give us a realistic chance at being accepted into DMOZ? Dwight
Meta hutcheson Posted December 27, 2004 Meta Posted December 27, 2004 It's a crowded area, and certainly "too commercial" and "not enough unique content" are judgments that ODP editors are required to make. For 99.9 (and growing) percent, there is no chance of a listing. If your site has content comparable or better than our best sites currently listed, there is a chance.
dwightski Posted December 27, 2004 Author Posted December 27, 2004 re: www.powayrestaurants.com I now realize what you are saying. Again I would like to thank everyone of you who have added to my understanding of the directory and the uphill trek I am engaging in. I will try to submit again when we have added more to our site to make it a unique place to visit. Thanks and happy holidays, Dwight
