Bill Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 Like I said in the earlier thread, that was deleted, Iam new at this but now I know the Do's and Dont's. With that said, could someone please tell me the status of URL: http://www.chocolatepen.com where is it in the queue? originaly several months ago it was submitted to: http://www.dmoz.com/Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate/Personalized
Meta kokopeli Posted February 26, 2003 Meta Posted February 26, 2003 It looks like you were submitting deeplinks to a variety of categories throughout Food including: Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate/Personalized Shopping/Gifts/Personalized/Candy_Wrappers Your site can only be listed under the root url in the most appropriate category. It is currently waiting review with a submission date of 18/Nov/2002 in Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate. Please don't submit anymore deeplinks. It looks to me like your site sells only in bulk, rather than to individual consumers. The purpose appears to be to apply a logo, it looks to me like it would be more appropriate for http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Advertising/Promotional_Items/Consumables/Candy/. [edited to add] I went ahead and moved the submission, so there is no need to resubmit. I am seeing minimum quantities of 250, etc. The smallest I found was a minimum order of one product for 25. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
Bill Posted February 27, 2003 Author Posted February 27, 2003 Thanks for your reply. The reason why I submitted to:Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate/Personalized is because competing websites are there. I actually have some in stock items that individual consumer buys, and others companys buy as marketing promotions. So is it possible to submit to both categoreis. How would moving to another category affects my turn in queue? Any idea when it will get listed? Thanks for your reply
Meta kokopeli Posted February 27, 2003 Meta Posted February 27, 2003 Another editor had combed the site before I did, I spent a lot of time and didn't find anything that was sold in individual items. The site should be listed in the one category where the main focus lies. The exception for this would be if you have a brick and mortar store, it would also qualify for a regional listing. The other editor who had previously looked at the site also felt the main purpose was not to sell to individual consumers. I am not saying that I don't believe you have individual products, I didn't look at each and every item--but it appears to me that the majority of the product content is directed into the bulk sales and therefore the business listing would be the most appropriate. Sorry <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />
Meta hutcheson Posted February 27, 2003 Meta Posted February 27, 2003 >>The reason why I submitted to:Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate/Personalized is because competing websites are there.' We hear this a lot. It's not entirely wrong, but it is always wrong. Searching for competitors is really one of the best ways of finding plausible categories for your own business. But ... don't forget the submittal policies still say "pick the ONE best site." As an extreme example. Suppose I sell Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars. Last week in the grocery I noticed that Pillsbury was including a toy car in their boxes of biscuit dough. So ... Pillsbury is now my competitor, and I should submit to every category they are in? Shopping categories are for sites of companies that sell directly to consumers. These companies are listed here not because they compete with you, but because they do something (relevant to the category) that does NOT compete with you. No harm done this time. Your site is listed properly, and I don't think you're going to be spamming every category that, say, Walmart is in, just because Walmart sells chocolate. But we'll save a lot of ODP editing time, and serve all honest businesses better, if we can get the message out: Read the guidelines...pick the ONE best category.
Bill Posted February 27, 2003 Author Posted February 27, 2003 I trust your judgment for the correct category the site should be in. However the two questions remain 1)How would moving to another category affects my turn in queue? 2)Any idea when it will get listed? Thanks for your reply
Meta hutcheson Posted February 27, 2003 Meta Posted February 27, 2003 OK, followup. 1) It's in the queue for the new category, but with the original submittal date. This matters if the editor looks at it, but many editors (like me) never do. For all practical purposes, think of it as a heap that each editor shuffles differently before starting a solitaire game. 2) The answer is the usual, and almost invariable: no, no way at all of telling when any editor will login, where he will go or what he will do there. I'm not even sure what _I_'m about to do.
Bill Posted February 28, 2003 Author Posted February 28, 2003 Please correct me if Iam wrong. What you are saying is that sites are edited regardless of the date they get submitted? If that is true, my site could get edited today or it could sit there forever. Could you please tell me how many sites waiting to be edited in this category? Thank you for your reply
Meta windharp Posted February 28, 2003 Meta Posted February 28, 2003 Thats exactly the prediction we can make. Between now and some years :-) For the size: Sorry, we dont want people to decide where they submit by comparing numbers. Submissions should be made by choosing the best category. I wanted to give a rough estimate, but due to soem kind of bug (hmmm... never had this before) I am unable to connect to the apropriate dmoz-category at the moment. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Bill Posted June 8, 2003 Author Posted June 8, 2003 Would someone please tell me the status of URL:http://www.chocolatepen.com? originally last year I submitted to http://www.dmoz.com/Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate/Personalized. On 26/02/03 it was moved to http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Advertising/Promotional_Items/Consumables/Candy/. Where is it in the queue? How much longer before it gets listed?. Thank You Bill
motsa Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 Please reuse your original thread in the Site Submission Status forum to ask for a status update. Thanks.
Bill Posted June 10, 2003 Author Posted June 10, 2003 I wanted to use the original thread but when I click on the reply button nothing happens, I don't get a reply form. So will you please reply to my request on the status of my site. Thank you much. Bill
Meta nea Posted June 10, 2003 Meta Posted June 10, 2003 Yes, the original thread appears to be locked. In any case, your site has been listed since April 14. <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> Cheers, -nea Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
Bill Posted July 27, 2003 Author Posted July 27, 2003 Thank you for listing my site in "Business: Marketing and Advertising: Advertising: Promotional Items: Consumables: Candy". I would like to also have it listed in the following catagory "Shopping: Food: Confectionery: Chocolate: Personalized". Would you tell me how should I go about doing that? Thanks a lot Bill
Meta kokopeli Posted July 27, 2003 Meta Posted July 27, 2003 That was already addressed in this thread which I am aware is locked but you were already told your site doesn't qualify for a shopping listing. If the content has changed, you can resubmit. edited to add: I re-looked at your site, you mainly sell in bulk with large numbers of products for the minimum sold...your site is appropriately listed in business and the previous discussion still applies as far as why it probably won't be listed in shopping as opposed to business, sorry. As discussed, the site is usually only listed in the one most appropriate category.
Meta kokopeli Posted July 27, 2003 Meta Posted July 27, 2003 I didn't actually address status of the site, currently I am unable to access the editor side, someone can check to see if your site is still pending in that category or if it has been denied/listed...but you were told in the other thread that you were already pending there and not to resubmit so I'm not sure why you are asking about how to go about submitting there. I did re-read the previous thread mentioned above--I thought I remembered you being denied but that was not exactly correct. I am mainly a shopping editor, and to be very honest I wouldn't list your site there. Mostly I found products that are sold in bulk of 500+ as a minimum which to me just doesn't say retail sales, it says business. I just tried to access the editor side again and am still not successful, if no one addresses the status you can bump the thread and ask again. The editor side has been working well, so I am sure it will be working again shortly.
brmehlman Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 It was listed in April under its Yahoo store url in this category.
Bill Posted February 14, 2004 Author Posted February 14, 2004 The catagory http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/ Advertising /Promotional_Items/Consumables/Candy/ at the link in bold is not listed in the directory. When I search for my site in the directory it says that site not found. The most relevant catagory for personalized chocolates that most closely match what I sell is http://www.dmoz.com/Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate/Personalized. Will you please move it to this catagory. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bill
totalxsive Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 We've listed your site as http://store.yahoo.com/chocolatepen/ in http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Advertising/Promotional_Items/Consumables/Candy/ . This is the best category for your site because you sell mostly to businesses and not customers, from what I can gather.
Bill Posted February 14, 2004 Author Posted February 14, 2004 Thank you for your reply. The entire focus of the products in my site is simply on these two words "personalized chocolate". Which is exactly what I sell. When any person or business is looking to buy my product they will not find me. That is why it should be in the catagory http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Chocolate/Personalized/ along with other businesses similar to mine which is most relevant to what I sell. Thank you, Bill
thehelper Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 The editors have determined placement. If you want to have the move considered submit an update url request but if it were me processing that I would leave you where you are. You are more business oriented and would not fit with the other standard shopping sites. - imho.
Meta hutcheson Posted February 14, 2004 Meta Posted February 14, 2004 If you wish to change your site away from its current focus on sales to business, that would be your right. If you ever do that, then please submit a "change URL" request. Arguing about site placement would not be an appropriate subject for this forum, even if a reasonable case could be made for an alternate placement, which is clearly not the case here.
Bill Posted February 23, 2004 Author Posted February 23, 2004 URL update I submitted URL change and description for my site www.chocolatepen.com. will you please let me know the status of my request. Thank you, Bill
bobrat Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Re: URL update Please wait until after 27/02/2004 and reuse http://resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=19630&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&vc=1 and read http://resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=3025
oneeye Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Re: URL update Please wait until after 27/02/2004 I think that's possibly a bit extreme - the last request was nearly a year ago! Besides it looks like there has been some interesting movement on it that should clear the query up instantly. Firstly, it is already listed. In http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Advertising/Promotional_Items/Consumables/Candy/ using the URL http://store.yahoo.com/chocolatepen/ back in April 2003. So http://www.chocolatepen.com won't be listed at all. Secondly submissions have been deleted from a couple of other categories. As editor Hutcheson said last time "Read the guidelines...pick the ONE best category. "
