web Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 Beacause Google directory uses the DMOZ listings, and "Link Popularity" and "Popularity of Links" is factored into Google's Page Rank, a listing in Dmoz automatically increases it's Google's ranking a couple of pages. I have noticed this in several of my sites, the latest being a "George Harrison Pictures Movies Biography" site, that went from #27 to #9 for "George Harrison Pictures" the VERY day it appeared in Google's updated directory listing (which is about one to two months behind ODP's new additions. This was based only on the DMOZ listing because the site was brand new and had no other links.
Meta windharp Posted May 16, 2002 Meta Posted May 16, 2002 Right. Maybe a little bit more in this case, but every occurance of a site on another one increases google ranking. Maybe more in case of ODP because its considered to be a source of good sites :/images/dmoz/purplegrin.gif I for myself would be glad if the google-ones think so /images/icons/smile.gif Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
beebware Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 True, and don't forget that because the ODP content is replicated around the web, a listing in ODP gets a site around 300+ other sites listing it. Google comes across those and then increases the PageRank appropriately. ODP listings do help your Google PageRank (and any other ranking system based on 'backward links') loads!
