Guest cpec Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Hi, It's been a while but we haven't seen our site get listed the directory yet. www.civicradar.com Can we get a status update please? Thanks.
Guest Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Please provide a clickable link to the category you submitted to. Thanks.
Guest cpec Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Hi, Actually, do not recall the exact section, but I'm pretty sure we would have submitted to this one: http://ch.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Connecticut/Society_and_Culture/Organizations/ or possibly a subsection of Business in that category. Using the Mirror, as the main site dmoz.org won't come up for us for the last couple of days Thanks.
Meta windharp Posted February 27, 2003 Meta Posted February 27, 2003 Most likely not that one. At least your submission is not waiting there. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Guest Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Your site is neither in that queue nor in the Business subcat one. No editor has touched it so far, it has not been rejected. Maybe it's not the right category, or maybe there was a problem with your submission. I suggest you try again.
Guest cpec Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Hi, I resumbitted CivicRADAR.com under the following category, and this page was returned with an error: http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add2.cgi Can you tell me if it made it into the system? Category: http://ch.dmoz.org/Society/Government/Government-Related_Organizations/Municipality_Organizations/ Thanks for all your help. Jon
dfy Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 It's not in the queue for that category, but it might be in the system somewhere. What was the error you received?
motsa Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 BTW I think that the first category you submitted to would have been the best choice for this site.
Guest cpec Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Hi, it's been a month and a half since we resubmitted our site. Can you let me know how our review is progressing? Thanks
lachenm Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 I don't see it in either of the two categories mentioned in this thread. I also don't see any evidence that it was moved or deleted. When you submitted, where exactly did you submit? And did you receive any error messages? My guess is that if you re-submitted to one of these two categories, the submission never went through. Frankly, I'm not sure that either of those two categories is the best one for this site, though. The site appears to be about a method for citizens to contact their local government, not about an organization. It also appears to be Connecticut-specific. As a result, it should be listed somewhere in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Connecticut , but since it isn't about an organization, doesn't belong in the Organizations subcategory. The main CPEC site would belong here, and, in fact, is currently listed in this category. Essentially www.civicradar.com is a subsite for a specific project of of CPEC. As a result, I'm not certain that your main page would be listable at all. If it were (and that's a big "if," depending on an editor thinking the content is valuable enough to a category to justify the listing), I suspect that the Connecticut Government category would be the most likely fit, with a description along the lines of "Service allowing residents to contact their towns." It is also possible that an editor might decide to list only the individual pages for the towns you represent (currently only Wethersfield and Weston), if they were judged to be valuable enough to warrant deeplinking. The bottom line is that I'd suggest submitting to the Connecticut Government category, but I'm not going to make any promises about listability.
Guest cpec Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Thanks, In actuality (if that's a word), we are rolling out civicradar to most towns in Connecticut, some in Massachusettes and probably a number in Rhode Island, which might put the project in a "new England" category rather than state specific. The Funding organization has decided that they want to package the civiciradar software and conceptually distribute it to towns anywhere in the USA... so Not sure if that affects where ot apply for listing. What we do know is that people have told us they didn't find the site directly when searching but were able to locate us through links from other listings. <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" /> Should we add more pages to the description of the site to get proper content to get it listed as a new england site? or would it behoove us to just submit as per your suggestion above? THanks for the help.
lachenm Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 The short answer is that we list sites based on what is actually on the website. We do not list sites based on the potential of some material appearing at some (specified or unspecified) time in the future. When I posted a couple of months ago, your sites were Connecticut-specific. Today, a brief look suggests that they are still Connecticut-specific. At the moment, the only place I can think that they might be listable is in a Connecticut category, as mentioned above. If your site develops content for other states, it might be listable elsewhere. But please note that I also stated that as a subsite for a specific project of CPEC, it might not be listable at all. It depends on what the local editor thinks, and the more content, the better your chances.
