Guest tjh Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 Struggling to get http://free-speech-email.com listed at http://dmoz.com/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Web-Based/ . I understand that hundreds of sites are waiting are waiting to be reviewed for this category. Please support my entry if you like the social initiative. Tim Hall
Meta icxcnika Posted March 1, 2003 Meta Posted March 1, 2003 Your submission is now waiting in a smaller group in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Free/Web-Based/F/ . Curlie volunteer meta editor icxcnika
Guest tjh Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Free/Web-Based/F/ is not the ideal category as: - http://free-speech-email.com is the gateway to a network of email domains; - each email domain provides the option for paid ad free email accounts as well as free email accounts. However, I do appreciate the suggestion. Tim Hall
Meta windharp Posted March 1, 2003 Meta Posted March 1, 2003 As you could have checked yourself, all submissions in the alphabar are sorted by letter, according to the official title of the page. Since your site is called "Free Speech Email" acording to the URL and the copyright I think its the best place. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Guest tjh Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 If necessary, I can accept http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Free/Web-Based/F/ , but you need to remember that http://free-speech-email.com is the portal site for a network of domains. Perhaps there needs to be a new category for email portals like mine such as http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Web-Based/MULTIPLE-OPTIONS or http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Free/Web-Based/MULTIPLE-OPTIONS . As it stands my point is that if http://dmoz.com/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Web-Based/ is good enough for YAHOO it is good enough for http://free-speech-email.com . Trust that you take all this in good faith. Tim Hall
motsa Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 If necessary, I can accept http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Free/Web-Based/F/ , but you need to remember that http://free-speech-email.com is the portal site for a network of domains. So what? I'm not sure what has to do with anything. We don't care what domains you're offering email accounts at or how many of them you have. Really, we don't. The domains have nothing to do with how and where your site will be listed. I see now that it's the fact that you're now waiting for review in the "Free" category at all that's bugging you, not the fact that you're in "F" in the free category. I see nothing on your site (other than one little line that says "free email accounts + ad free email accounts for responsible citizens") that indicates you offer anything but free accounts -- you don't give any pricing plans or other information about it so as far as we can see, you only offer free accounts. Which means you're waiting in the right category. Since you're comparing yourself to Yahoo, you'll notice that Yahoo is fairly obvious about the fact that they have free and paid email account options. Your site isn't.
Guest tjh Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 No skin off my nose if http://free-speech-email.com is listed in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Free/Web-Based/F/ . Just feel that http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Free/Web-Based/F/ would be best to kept for email domains beginning with F etc. with a new category created for email networks like http://free-speech-email.com . As things stand you are perhaps inviting email networks to individually submit each email domain into the appropriate alphabar category. I had no plans to go down that road as it simply clogs up the directory with even more email entries. Just a http://free-speech-email.com suggestion to introduce a bit more logic into the email categories! Apologies if I am really off course. Tim Hall
Guest Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 Speaking of logic, don't think that Yahoo taking your money had nothing to do with them accepting your site.
