Guest jsnow Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 Hi My information is: Domain: http://www.appliedlanguage.com Category: http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Translation/Multiple_Language/Europe/United_Kingdom/ I submitted my site about 3 weeks ago and was told at the time it was the first to be reviewed. The site was then listed in yahoo at both the top and regional level, at which point I realised I should have submitted it at the top level here as the company operates in many different countries, so I then submitted to: http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Translation/ Could somebody tell me if I have done the right thing and what the status is now Your help is greatly appreciated John <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
Meta windharp Posted March 1, 2003 Meta Posted March 1, 2003 Editors where unable to browse your site several times, so it got deleted from the queues (both of them). I cant confirm that myself, but Im using a fairly new browser with nearly everything possible installed. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Guest Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 You may want to fix all that javascript code (undefined 'Menu' on line 154, and others), and the .css file. I suppose that the javascript call for the webring table (yeah, the one hidden at the beginning of the body together with all the other stuff) is also responsible for some browser errors. I can see the site only with IE 6.0, debugger off. Also, you may wan to to put something about the company location in your contact page, which will ease the job of the editors trying to classify it as an UK-based translation company.
totalxsive Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 About your submission: 1) We are not Yahoo - we have different (in my mind better) listings guidelines than they do. As such, you should only submit to http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Translation/Multiple_Language/Europe/United_Kingdom and not the category higher up the tree. 2) If you make your location clear on your site, you may also be able to get a listing in the town where you are based. We don't have a category for Offerton but your site would probably be suitable for http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Manchester/Stockport/Business_and_Economy/Services/ . (note: the site appeared fine in Mozilla 1.3, but when running it through a text browser it was very confusing. I hope you realise that while this won't affect your submission, it makes it difficult for blind users to browse your site)
Guest jsnow Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 Thank you all for your replies. I will clean it up and resubmit Cheers Gavin
Guest jsnow Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 First of all I'd like to thank windharp, ettore and totalxsive for the advice given!! As you may have gathered I am rather new at this, so it was back to the drawing board/message boards/books and anything else I could find. Hopefully I have got it sorted out and was wondering if somebody could have a look and confirm/dash my hopes, or should I just submit and wait again? Cheers John
Guest jsnow Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 I'm having trouble with the menus now I've actually uploaded so I appologise and shall get back to that drawing board again
