Rose Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 What does one do if anything if a category has not been edited for over a year? The last time has been looked at was Oct 17th 2003
Meta hutcheson Posted January 6, 2005 Meta Posted January 6, 2005 How much does it matter? Enough that _one_ is willing to learn whatever it takes to be able to do whatever it takes to make that category comprehensive and fair? If not, then one probably doesn't do anything. If so, then one studies the editor's guidelines, looks for good websites, makes one's own local health links page much better than the ODP is: and points to it as an example of the kind of work one would like to do at the ODP also. That's really the way all volunteer organizations work. They provide a structure, an umbrella, support to help people who are already doing what they can ... to do more. If one wants to practice without facing the temptation of self-promotion, then one selects a nearby category instead -- perhaps Education or Society -- and works up to adapt the whole town. Or county or state....
Rose Posted January 27, 2005 Author Posted January 27, 2005 category not being edited Wow! not sure what all that's suppose to mean, but it sounds like and along the same fraise of " it takes a village to raise a child", but any who! My simple little medical center and it's web site for Hyperbaric medicine and therapies for special needs children etc. may never be listed. Why I don't know? it's been over a year--boo hoo for me! The one category I tried to list on has a whole two listings in it, yet I guess this town is not big enough for the three of us. I did notice it's most recent edited date was Feb. 14 2005. I just can't figure why I didn't make it this time? Will I have to wait another 2 years from the last 2003 update to this category? No need to answer these insurmountable questions , I wouldn't want to take anyone away from important time. Well I can truly say it's been REAL! --------- it's been FUN!----------But unfortunately----------I can't say it's been a REAL lot of FUN!
motsa Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 Wow! not sure what all that's suppose to mean...The gist of what he was saying was that if you notice that a category hasn't been edited in a while and you feel strongly that it should be edited more frequently (i.e. that there are a lot of sites that should be there that aren't), then you might want to read our guidelines and work to become the editor for said category or one nearby. If you don't think it is worth the effort, then it has to wait until someone who wants to review sites in the area comes through. I did notice it's most recent edited date was Feb. 14 2005. I just can't figure why I didn't make it this time? Will I have to wait another 2 years from the last 2003 update to this category? I presume you mean Jan. 14, 2004? Edits are made all the time to a category that don't involve actually adding a site. So, it's not as though your site was passed over -- the editor working in the category was not reviewing sites but doing other maintenance tasks in a broader area that happened to include this category.
Rose Posted January 27, 2005 Author Posted January 27, 2005 I,m sorry, but I offered to edit-----------not good enought there either
