Guest f00sion Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 A few months back I submitted a request to change the domain and description of our listing for www.gssracing.com. That domain is now redirecting to our new one: gopedsuperstore.com. This listing is in http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Motorcycles/Scooters/Go-Peds/. Can you tell me the status?
dfy Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 I get "www.gopedsuperstore.com could not be found" when I try to take a look at your new site.
Guest f00sion Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Thats odd, maybe the server was jacked when you tried it or something. It is definitely there.
dfy Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Not for me it isn't. When I click on the link you give above, http://www.gssracing.com. (note the extra dot on the end) the site loads normally. When I strip off the dot and go to http://www.gssracing.com/, it fails to load, giving me a "gopedsuperstore.com connot be found" error. Maybe one of our internet protocol experts will let us know what's happening, because I can't work it out.
Guest f00sion Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 That is strange, it works when it shouldn't and doesn't work when it should. If you just go to www.gopedsuperstore.com does it work?
lachenm Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Flaky DNS? The correct URL (without the period) works for me. The update request is waiting for review with over 100 other sites.
dfy Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Re: http://www.gssracing.com/ Neither the re-direct, nor the direct route worked for me earlier. Now they both do. Since you've done the right thing in setting up a re-direct from your old URL to your new one, making our job so much simpler, I've made the update for you. I can't believe you've been listed as "Goped Super Sore" for so long. I love learning things, and today I discovered that 'domainname.com.' is the canonical form of a URL. This means it's treated differently to the 'normal' form, and if it isn't specifically addressed in a server directive, that directive won't take effect. This knowlege will serve me well when hunting down evil spammers.
