Guest Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Hi ODP Editors, I'm so happy to have found this resource and I hope it can help me out. I have been trying for over 6 months to get digital-cables.com submitted to ODP directory. I have done everything I can think of, read every help file, emailed editors applied to proper categories and nothing. No replies and no listing. My site is in yahoo, google, inktomi and all the rest. One thing I noticed for my top category choice is that there is not editor. So what I did was go up a few levels till I found a category with an editor and submitted to that one but still nothing. I'm hoping some kind editor would take some time to help me out. Here is my site again: www.digital-cables.com and here are the categories that are relevant to my site: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Consumer_Electronics/Audio/ (this category does not have an editor so my next choice would be: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Consumer_Electronics/Home_Theater/ http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Consumer_Electronics/Home_Theater/ (this one does not have an editor either) I appreciate "ANY" feedback and help. Thank you for your time, Craig
totalxsive Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 I wasn't able to find any history for that URL, which means no editor has picked it up yet. Shopping/ categories contain some of the largest backlogs of any categories in the directory, and these two are very overgrown with submissions. It may be a while before it gets listed, I'm afraid.
Guest Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 http://dmoz.org/add.html says to submit to the _single_ most appropriate category.
Guest Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 What if the most appropriate category doesn't have an editor?
thehelper Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Many categories in the ODP do not have editors. Categories without editors are edited by editors higher up in the tree and by higher level editors who can edit throughout the directory.
totalxsive Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 This is a common myth about the ODP - that you should only submit to a category with an editor listed. This is very untrue, since an editor of one category is responsible for the categories below it. I, for example, am responsible for Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/ , but can edit in any of the categories below it. Submitting to a different category that has an editor is a bad idea, because the editor of that category may not have priviledges in the proper category that you should be listed in, in which case it will just be added to the same submission pile.
