ahee, ahhee, coughing out loud!

Yet another month.

I'll be back next month with a sneeze or LOL if one of the editors decides to make my day after few months of queuing!

Re: http://www.wi-fitechnology.com/

What I meant is exactly that: Yet another month_ Clearer and objectively stronger statement. I am like the majority, accustomed to obeying Bill Gates "Word". Try writing that in MS Word and it'll literally turn RED!

To calm one's fears down, you write it "month", and then the color comes back. You are not going to comment on "color" as colour?

Yes they are, but if you count from 22/06/03 11:36 PM and deduct sleeping time and consider the Swahili modern English Calendar written by the Iraqi Information Minister!.

OK I made a keboob there, forgive me, it's that time of the MUNTH probably!

:)

I kind like the "keboob" word, never used it before, it just landed from the keyboard on to the screen, so I left it!

Re: http://www.wi-fitechnology.com/

Sad to say, not much has changed, though it does appear to be waiting in the holding area.

We've deleted one duplicate submission -- there's no need to resubmit.

I thought it was always in the holding area, does that mean it is nearing a chance for inclusion?

The thing is, if every editor I ask for help and what I get is "the site is in the holding area", it'll remain there!

What I beg for is someone actually going to the holding are, placing the site and its info in the right category, then add it to the directory and come back and say, it has been included, after all it has been months!

To the first Editor who sees this: Please don't leave it to the next one!

Sorry, this can't be a forum for making that kind of request.

I'm usually one of the editors who mucks out the holding area. I've been busy actually adding sites the past couple of weeks. I won't look for your site specifically, but I will open a window and work on some category in my favorite order.

Thanks for your reply, I know now you've been busy adding sites and I did not mean to be too demanding. Please read this and take it into consideration:

Our site operates on non-profitability, as such we are aiming to register the organization it represents (The Wi-Fi Technology Forum) with the Charities Commission in the UK next year. As a registered charity, our work (Volunteers from all over the world) will become easier in lobbying governments, the computer industry for Internet access provision in the third world as well as other campaigns aimed at improving security and lowering prices.

The site now is one of the most important sources for news and press releases, literature and resources concerning Wi-Fi Technology (all for free), amongst our volunteer force are eminent technology professors, academics, military experts, private and public sector workers etc.. all in it for the single purpose of providing a platform upon which wireless communication becomes the language that is accessible to the whole world and (not to be philosophical), eliminating misunderstanding and lack of communication between nations. Wars and cross-nations hatred are consequences due to lack of common communication grounds and misunderstanding. As Wi-Fi Technology is the cheapest and the most practical, the United Nations is campaigning along with us to improve communications using wi-fi technology "We need to think of ways to bring wireless-fidelity applications to the developing world so as to make use of unlicensed radio spectrum to deliver cheap and fast Internet access."—Kofi Annan, November 5th, 2002"

I feel the site and the organization it represents merits a priority inclusion due its mission.

I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that everyone thinks the same thing (for a variety of reasons) about their own site.

Very few editors, relatively speaking, have the resources to be able to edit in the holding area, which is why editors like hutcheson spend a large chunk of time there -- asking them to review sites as they're pushing those sites through to the right categories isn't fair or appropriate.

Posted

All this will be compounded by the fact that the http://dmoz.org/Computers/Data_Communication/ categories are backlogged from a lack of editors that spend a lot of time there.

Have you considered applying to be an editor? Perhaps there is a small subcategory that interests you (the whole Wireless tree is too large, but maybe you'd consider the Wireless/Satellite cat, or perhaps some other cat that interests you.

If you just want to get your site listed, you shouldn't do this. But if you're interested in improving the directory...

Note that a category being backlogged doesn't mean that the standards for acceptance change (and I think sometimes makes it more difficult to be accepted for a category). There's some useful reading in the sticky threads at the top of the "Become an Editor" forum. Just a thought...

Thanks for your suggestion. I am already an editor of an other similar directory to which I contribute whenever time allows. I remember applying about few months ago, but was rejected for some reason or another. I may consider re-applying for the sake of liquidating the backlog, however, I'll certainly add our site and other partners sites (keeping with ODPs guidelines of course). It'll make it easier for me as a member of a non-commercial online organization, no fear of competition or conflict of interests there. The question is, will I be accepted, I've got the feeling, UK would be editors and non-US applicants seem to be given a hard time (this is what I heard, likely to be unfounded I guess).

You've definitely been getting information from a poor source. There are lots of editors from all around the world. In particular there are a lot of UK editors who work as a close team on UK related categories, in addition to being very active across the directory. Sometimes it may appear harder for non-native English speakers to become accepted to an English language category due to irregularities in grammar or spelling. However, I'm sure far more native English speakers from the US are rejected due to poor spelling and grammar than any other group. :o [Note - I am not a Meta, I am sure only because of the poor skills exhibited on so many of the US websites I review. :( ]

Anyway, it seems like you'd fit in and do well as an editor. I hope you apply again. There's good advice in the Becoming an editor forum. :)

Sorry, this can't be a forum for making that kind of request.

I just wanted to comment that the reason we don't actually handle sites while providing status, is that this forum would rapidly become a mecca for every over-anxious webmaster trying to get an instant listing. We do try to take note of areas that have been neglected for a long time and raise awareness of the need.

I noticed from my logs an editor had a look at the category and the site, I was hoping this time he/she would include the site, so fare no sign!

It has taken far too long. I tried on a couple of occasions to register as an editor, the scripts seem to go nowhere, then I gave up. I was hoping even if my site is listed I'll carry on helping as I am doing the same for the Looksmart directory.

Can someone have a second serious look please!

You submitted wi-fiforum.com a good while back, and it now points people to the site you're posting about. Your site was "greenbusted" into a short queue awaiting final review from someone with permissions to approve that edit.

http://inelegant.org/ddp/03010/ explains. Your old site URL has been changed to the new one, and it awaits a bit more action.

As you were told before...this is not the place to make that type of request. We do not review sites simply because someone requests that we do so.

It has taken far too long.

There are sites that have been waiting more than two years for inclusion. There is no time limit.

My advice to you is to stop worrying about the logs and when/if we make a decision concerning your site. There is absolutely nothing more you can do at this point, and worrying about it is not the healthiest thing in the world.

Keep working on your site, keep adding unique content, and continue to submit to search engines and other directories. Those are things that you can do.
