Hi,

I've been trying to get www.MarriageRomance.com into the directory for several months. I've submitted it to the http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Marriage/ category. I never hear back to find out why it was rejected. So I started sending emails to the staff (Which I guess I should not have done). Then I found this public forum. This is great. I hope to find out why it get's rejected or even better I hope we can get it listed. It's listed in ZEAL.

I was posting it very often (every two days), but then I read that you should not post it more often then once every two weeks, so I submitted it about a week ago, after waiting two weeks from the time that I had been submitting it more often.

Thanks,

Karl

Oh - Thanks so much! I'll be patient.

The subcat

Might be more appropriate.

Being patient is good. However, you don't have to be. It is perfectly ok for an editor to list their own site

as long as there is no attempt made to give the lsiting an un-fair advantage.

Have you considered http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/apply.cgi?where=Society/Relationships/Marriage/Education_and_Enrichment

?

Thanks for your suggestion. I did apply to be an editor and was rejected because they said there were already too many editors for that category. The category I applied for was Society/Relationships/Marriage. I'll try again in the Education and Enrichment category. Thanks, Karl

Oh, I see. Actually, after thinking about it, I was wrong when I said the category I tried to be an editor for, was Society/Relationships/Marriage.

When I applied to be an editor, I requested that they let me start a new sub category - "Romance", under Society/Relationships/Marriage. Since my site is MarriageRomance.com, and because I felt there was a need for a sub category, I tried to get it.

But I guess they did not think that was a good idea at the time.

Thanks,

If you decide to consider being an editor, actulaly the best thing to do before applying, is to

read the guidelines (more than once).

They are available for public view at: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/Open_Directory_Project/Policies_and_Procedures/Editing_Guidelines/

Supply two or three sites, and write good descriptions.

Be honest about any affiliations that you have.

Then be patient.

Thanks VJL,

I'll try that. Do you think I should try again for the new Marriage Romance category editor or go for an existing category?

Best Regards,

Karl

It would be best--you'd have a better chance anyway--if you applied for an existing category. Most of the category structure has been set now and changes like new categories require some discussion, so I don't believe many new editors are going to be accepted into newly created categories that way, with the exception of Movies, Television programs, etc, where new ones come along all the time.

Once you've been accepted to a category, learned the ropes, and shown that you can edit it in a fair and non-biased manner, you'll be in a better position to recommend the creation of a new category like that.

Thanks for your advise. I guess I'll wait until we get back from vaction - in three weeks. And see if maybe it's been approved by then.

Thanks again for your advise!
