wyattde Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Hello, I submitted my site over a year and a half ago and still have not been added. My Site is: http://www.travelvideostore.com The Directory Submitted to: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Entertainment/Recordings/Video/Travel/ http://dmoz.org/Arts/Movies/Filmmaking/Documentary/Travel/ <inappropriate promotion and inappropriate request censored -- see forum policies>
djdeeds Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 A suggestion from September awaits review in the Shopping cat you cite (anything older will have been overwritten). Several others have been deleted as duplicates, including some from Arts, as the site appeared to be a Shopping site to the reviewing editors.
wyattde Posted February 21, 2005 Author Posted February 21, 2005 I do not quite understand the response. Are you saying that my request from September is still awaiting review in shopping category? If so, how long will it take? As to my other submissions being deleted from the ARTS categories since my site appeared to be a shopping site, I do not understand why I would be deleted, since the other listings are all selling travel documentarys in VHS and DVD as we are, can you help me understand? I guess I just do not understand why it has taken so long to get added, it causes me concern in that possibly a competitor is controlling the additon of sites to that category given that no major seller of travel videos is listed in that shopping category. What do I do at this point?
Meta hutcheson Posted February 21, 2005 Meta Posted February 21, 2005 Read the last post; it is not really that complex. Read the forum FAQs; they will answer most of your general questions. Read the ODP editors' guidelines; that will explain why your suspicions are unlikely. Read the submittal policies; that will tell you what you did wrong that forced the editors to clean up after you. Give us your list of the "major sellers of travel videos" that are missing from the directory and ought to go into this category. That might induce an editor to do some serious work in the category.
wyattde Posted February 21, 2005 Author Posted February 21, 2005 I still do not understand due to the lack of specifics. Regarding my suspicions, I did read an article that stated that one of the problems that DMOZ is fighting is editors that are keeping competitors out of categorys, that is were that concern originated, I would hope that it is not true. You state that the editors were forced to clean up after me, in regard to what, my site has not been listed nor have I received any notification of any problem with my listing. Per the instructions on the website, I resubmitted every few months for a year, the last time being in September 2004. In evaluating the guidelines as you recommended, I see no reason for us to not be added: Is the site's content/information identical to other sites? NO Does the ODP include the type of site you want to add? YES Is the site complete? YES Is the site current? YES Is the site available and does it load completely? YES In reviewing the Title and Description guidelines, I do not see any violations as My Title was TravelVideoStore.com which is the legal name of the company and the description outlines the fact that we offer more travel videos to destinations around the world, which is true. You mention that the editors had to clean up, as I had said, I have not recevied any notification of changes nor have I seen a modified version placed in your list. So what is the current status, and what do I need to do to get our business listed? As to your request for the other top selling travel video stores on the web, they are: Maps2Anywhere.com Totalvid.com travelview.com travelanimal.com There are a number of other ones but they would not meet you listing requirments as they are affiliates of other stores. I am at a loss as to what needs to be done, I think waiting since August 2003 for my site to get added is a long time without any feedback or action and at this point I would like to know what we need to do to get this accomplished. If the purpose of the ODP is to provide a directory that would be of value to users, then without a doubt we represent substantial value in that consumers can in one place search through thousands of travel video titles to research their vacations and allow them to get the most out of their vacations, in addtion, our site offers attractive pricing, it that we are cheaper than most other sites, including amazon, quick shipping in that all videos are warehoused in our own warehouse - no drop shipping from us - and we provide an 800 number for customer service staffed from 7am to 10pm EDT M-F. Please help me as I just do not know where this is at.
bobrat Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 I like to be blunt. No editor is causing you are problem, you are causing several editors a problem. 1. You were supposed to submit your site once to one category. And you did not. There are consequances for doing that that are spelled out here :: http://www.dmoz.org/add.html Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites. At this point five different editors have dealt with your submissions - I sincerly doubt there are all your competitors. And as a result of this post a whole pile of other editors will have been looking at the history. Your site belongs in Shopping if it belongs anywhere - you do not make Travel Documentaries - so you do not belong in Arts: Movies: Filmmaking: Documentary 2. I resubmitted every few months for a year and each time you did that, you pushed youself to the end of the line [it was not a competitor] - as stated above, we told you not to do that. The bottom line is that you now know your site is somewhere waiting to be reviewed, do not submit again. Your site may be reviewed tomorrow it may never be reviewed, it's out of your control and there is nothing you can do - other than making sure your ISP keeps the site up. You may ask again in this thread in six months.
