Meta windharp Posted March 18, 2003 Meta Posted March 18, 2003 Waiting in a medium sized queue. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Meta hutcheson Posted March 18, 2003 Meta Posted March 18, 2003 Waiting for review with about a hundred other sites. Since there is a clear regional focus (right?), don't forget to submit to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Counties/Orange/Recreation_and_Sports/ , which has no backlog at all.
Guest jmigs64 Posted March 18, 2003 Posted March 18, 2003 Definitely regional and when I submitted to the above regional site, it gave me a "page can not be displayed" error at http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add2.cgi Could you see if it's in the queue?
Guest jmigs64 Posted March 18, 2003 Posted March 18, 2003 How would I get Orange County added to this sub-category? http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Recreation_and_Sports/Golf/
Guest Posted March 18, 2003 Posted March 18, 2003 Well, if there were enough golf related sites in Orange County(or one of it's localities), a subcategory would be created (Recreation_and_Sports/Golf), and then linked from http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Recreation_and_Sports/Golf/By_County/ At the moment there are not sufficient sites to create the Golf sub category, and we don't link to R&S, rather than R&S/Golf The sub category would also be required to hold links to a locality with a R&S/Golf sub category, so submit all the golf sites in the County and it's Localities until we have enough sites to create the sub categories
Guest jmigs64 Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 resubmitted http://www.orangecountygolfcourses.com to: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Counties/Orange/Recreation_and_Sports/ BUT I got errors both times. Is it in the queue here? Thanks.
Meta hutcheson Posted March 20, 2003 Meta Posted March 20, 2003 No, it's not in the queue. It had already been listed.
Guest jmigs64 Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Nothing comes up when I do a search at dmoz.com. Could that engine be down?
Meta windharp Posted March 21, 2003 Meta Posted March 21, 2003 Search database is updated about once a week - be patient, it will come up in some time. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Guest Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 By the way, when you search, don't use www.orangecountygolfcourses.com as the search term, but orangecountygolfcourses.com should work once the search database has updated (roughly weekly). Of course we don't really worry about individual sites being returned in a search, better that the category is provided, and you look there.
Guest jmigs64 Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 Help me understand this better. At: http://ch.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Recreation_and_Sports/Golf/By_County/ there is only one county listing - San Diego - with eight listings. Orange County (not listed) is bigger with more golf courses and directories than San Diego. It seems if you "create it-they will come". I would hazard to guess that if most webmasters don't see a category, they will go to the next best thing, right? Under the category below, I can drill down right to R&S in Orange County but there's only two sites that are golf related and the third is a broken link: http://ch.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Counties/Orange/Recreation_and_Sports/ How can we add "Orange County" to R&S/Golf/By_County/? Thanks again for your time, Jessica
Meta windharp Posted March 24, 2003 Meta Posted March 24, 2003 Now, simple: Someone has to create a Golf-category similar to the one that exists in San Diego. Since most of the editors have a lot of tasks to do, this would be something a new editor could perfectly do - he would have to apply suggesting the apropriate subcategory at the apropriate place (like it already exists for San Diego) and supply some initial links for his application - after being accepted he could add tons of other links to the new category to make it grow :-) Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
motsa Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 he could add tons of other links to the new category to make it growKeep in mind that such a golf category would only contain golf sites that cover the entire (or large part of the) county, not individual golf courses (those would be in the localities). So it's likely there aren't too many other eligible links out there.
Guest jmigs64 Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 status of http://www.orangecountygolfcourses.com posted to: http://dmoz.org/Sports/Golf/Directories/ Still in the queue? Thanks, Jessica
Meta hutcheson Posted April 24, 2003 Meta Posted April 24, 2003 Swamp still there, alligators still active, civil engineers still elsewhere.
Guest jmigs64 Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 I'm thinking that this would be a more appropriate category than Sports/Golf/Directories. Can you move my request or should I do it?http://dmoz.org/Sports/Golf/Courses/Directories/North_America/United_States/California/
motsa Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 Quite right. The engineering corps has moved your site to that category where it is now waiting.

lachenm Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 Still waiting, I'm afraid, with just a few other sites.
