Guest ernest Posted March 19, 2003 Posted March 19, 2003 Checking if submission received as I received the "could not determine IP notice " Submitted to http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Education/Gap_Years/ on 13/03/03 thanks in advance Ernest
Guest ernest Posted April 12, 2003 Posted April 12, 2003 Just checking again to find out if site was received !!! Don't want to submit again if it's in the Q thanks Ernest
Guest ernest Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 Hi again "Eds" Pleeeeeeease let me have a reply, Am I in the Q or not ???? Just to recap--submitted a month ago and received the "could not determine IP address" notice. Also I am not sure if the catagory is correct! The only "Gap Year" listing is Europe/United Kingdom . As can be seen we are a South Africa organisation but all Gap Year volunteers originate from Europe !! Don't mind being moved to a different / more appropriate catagory thanks Ernest
dfy Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 The editor side of the ODP is very slow at the moment, and I don't have the several hours it would take to load the necessary category, so I don't know if you site is in the queue or not. However in this case we wouldn't hold it against you if you just re-submitted. You'll need to find an appropriate regional category to submit to, I'd suggest http://dmoz.org/Regional/Africa/South_Africa/Provinces/KwaZulu-Natal/ . It might be moved to a more specific category, but that's a good starting place. I do realise that most of your audience comes from Europe, but we list sites by their content, not by their audience.
Guest ernest Posted April 14, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 Thanks for help so far!!! Have tried to submit to the Catagory in the previous post but cannot get a "successful submission" reply. I do not want to keep hitting the submit button if the submission is in. Have been trying at various times over the last 36 hrs. Please let me know if received or not. thanks Ernest
Meta tuisp Posted April 14, 2003 Meta Posted April 14, 2003 Nope, hasn't been received in that cat. Keep trying, ernest
Guest ernest Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 Have been trying at various hours daily since last post to submit but timesout. Yesterday had a webmaster friend who used a "Lynx Browser" with "Putty" software to a remote server and thinks this was successfull. Please check for me if it's in at last !!!! thanks Ernest
Guest Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 Yes, it's there now Nothing succeeds like a canary with no beak.
Guest Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Site was denied listing as being a part of www.africaelephants.com, which is already listed.
Guest ernest Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 May I please ask that the submission be revisited. Submission guidelines are "Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory." www.africaelephants.com is a general site about the park, elephants, ecology, history, culture etc., www.gap-year-south-africa.org is a site specifically about gap-year and year-out volunteer programs in and around the Tembe Elephant Park. The sites were designed by different authors and are totally different in content and purpose. Other national parks and game reserves have numerous "dmoz listed sites" about them. Have a look Yellowstone or Kruger!! As stated in earlier posts I am not sure about catagory !!! UK has Gap-Year catagorys but none in Africa regards Ernest
Guest ernest Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 This thread has changed from a status query to a request for review. Am I still in the correct forum, can and should it be moved to the submissions forum ? please advise regards ernest
Meta hutcheson Posted May 27, 2003 Meta Posted May 27, 2003 >Other national parks and game reserves have numerous "dmoz listed sites" about them. Have a look Yellowstone or Kruger!! Sigh. That's like a spammer saying, "you get 20 emails a day already. Why shouldn't I send you 20 more?" Look, one organization, one topic -- WE call it one website. They can put it on as many domains as they want, they can have as many different web developers working on it as they want; they can link all its pages together, so people can find all their content from one listing, or not. All that is under THEIR control. The ODP will list one site. It is not the ODP's job to substitute for deliberately crippled website navigation. Now, if Joe and Fred both, on their own initiative, want to make up websites about Kruger or Yellowstone, we'll consider listing both, even if Kruger and Yellowstone both already have official sites. And if two completely different federal agencies create sites on Yellowstone, we'll list them. But we don't regard that as the same thing at all. One agency. One website. Just link it together yourself. Because the ODP won't do it for you.
