Creating static HTML from a small portion of RDF

My site covers a topic that has it's own small category in the ODP, so I wanted to add that part of the RDF dump to my site. The problem is that I can't find a free tool to help me create static HTML from part of the RDF dump. I found PLENTY of tools that will incorporate a live feed from the ODP, but the ODP doesn't need another site leeching their much needed bandwidth.

I imagine it would be best for me to parse the RDF data I want into a mySQL database...I really need suggestions on a free tool that can help me do this. Thanks in advance for any help.

If its only a small category why do you need to take the whole rdf dump when you could just create it manually yourself.

Maybe this isn't what you wanted to hear, but surely if it is a small area, then you could just do it that way <img src="/images/icons/tongue.gif" alt="" />

good Luck

A few days ago that's sort of what I did. Right now I'm in the process of integrating the ODP data with the look of the rest of my website. Are there any rules on what changes you can make to the ODP data? I'm using a really small category, so I checked all the links myself and deleted expired domains and ones that didn't offer much in the way of content. I also deleted the "See Also" links since they didn't lead to many links that my visitors could benefit from.

I made it clear that I had modified the ODP data at the top and bottom of every page, so I hope it's okay. I haven't added it to my site yet, so if there's anything I should know, LMK. I have the required links at the bottom of every page too.

If you would hand over a link we could have a look at the result.

In general, the backlinks have to be present (become an editor, about, add a site), if any copyright is given it should include the original copyright, modificated pages have to be marked as such.

Of course you can change layout, design and so on as you wish.

I think I'm done customizing it to the look of my site. Here is a link to the first page: http://www.dubuquearmyinfo.com/directory/index.html

I only have the first index page done, so clicking on the categories will give you a 404(Page Not Found) error at this time. Summary of modifications: External links open in a new window, some categories deleted such as "Personal Pages", and some external links deleted when content didn't suit our audience or the domains were expired. Modification notice will be placed on every page.

Let me know if I need to change anything.

I forgot to ask you about the copyright issue you mentioned before. I put a copyright notice on the bottom of every page of my site....is it okay if I add this at the bottom of the page where I put the modification notice:

The Open Directory Project grants the Dubuque Army Info Site a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify and create derivative works from, and distribute and publish the Open Directory and our derivative works thereof, subject to all of the terms and conditions of the Open Directory License.

I took that right out of the Open Directory License. Is that okay? I'd like to keep our copyright notice at the bottom, so if I add that statement will I be in the clear?

Try looking at any page in the google directory

under the submit a site links it has :

The content of the Google directory is based on the Open Directory and is enhanced using Google's own technology.

The following Open Directory editors contributed to this category: gimmster

Modified by Google - ©2003 Google

I think you just need something similar - I'm not sure if you need to include editor details or not (haven't read the licence).

Re: Creating static HTML from a small portion of R

I'm pretty sure the editor names aren't needed. I think that's part of the data, and you can pick and choose which data you want to include.

And do remember nobody here works for or represents Netscape. We give opinions, usually well informed ones, but we don't do legal advice.

Thanks for the advice. I'll put a notice similiar to Google's at the bottom of every page of the directory.

Found at the Become an Editor page?

That seems a very non-obvious place to have it!

Not really, if you read the details about the RDFs, you'll see the link to the license agreement which details the terms and conditions of the data usage and makes clear in steps 2a, 2b and 4 that you have got to use the appropriate attribution. If you don't read and agree to the license conditions, you wouldn't be legally allowed to re-use the content (I'm not a lawyer yadda yadda yadda).
