Though when I do a search for melon design I get the following:

 

Open Directory Categories (1-5 of 5)

1. Home: Cooking: Fruits and Vegetables: Melons * (21 matches)

3. Home: Cooking: Soups and Stews: Chilled: Fruit * (5)

Any reason why the listing doesn't show?

oh, out of interest, how many categories can, or does a site typically get listed under?

DMOZ search has never worked very well, and it seems particularly bad, now. Look at the bottom of the screen for the search database update date. (Dec 17 2004 ).
