URL which appears out of place, at best and misleading

Cat:

http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Scouting/Regional/North_America/United_States/

URL:

http://www.varsityscouts.com/

Title & Description:

Varsity Scouting - BSA - Program information, leadership resources, training and links.

Concern:

Link goes to Knightsbridge Inc, a company which provides followup surveys for automotive dealerships. This commercial site is not a Scouting organization site. It has nothing to do with Scouting.

Thanks for scouting this out (or outing that scout, or whatever). It's been pulled.

Thanks for your help.

Okay, although they've changed methods since I first spotted them, these guys are spamming and hidin' links like crazy.

The first incarnation had black text on a black back-ground, with some hidden links which themselves had redirects to definately not-on-topic pages. This latest is much more subtle, and if you don't check the code, the sites not too bad. Anyway, I'm not the judge!

mipapage,

you may want to take a look at the ODP Guidelines. Hidden text and hidden layers are not our business: we do care about the user's experience in visiting the site.

That is, what a webmaster does in order to fool Search Engines may or may not lead to him having problems with the Search engines depending on how they set their algos, but until the site is compliant with the ODP Guidelines we list it.

Right, sorry, as I said, these guys changed their methods - I thought maybe there'd be a remnant of the old site which I am certain was a bait and switch.

I had some trouble posting here at first, and at that time (about three weeks ago) all of their links redirected to stuff outside of the 'industry', and they had no content of any value - just a lot of repetitave text that you couldn't read, as black-on-black tends to do that! A Dmoz editor saw the site and sent me here - as they did have a Dmoz listing, we figured that they must have baited and switched.

Recently falling out of a certain SE perhaps had something to do with the nice new site. Sorry to have wasted your time on this one!

This site has been offline for a long time (you can confirm by checking the google cache, and probably even archive.org) - I submitted an "update" URL about 4 times in the past 12 months, but no one has ever changed it.

Thanks for that. Other domains are showing a similar error, so I'm in the process of tracking them down and zapping them.

Thanks, old crone. I believe they are all taken care of. (Long lists like that tend to cause some synchronization problems.)
