Reading the FAQ submission guidelines, it use to say submit every month but we did it every other to give it time to be reviewed. When we still didn't see it included, we re-read the FAQ's which suggested to come here and check if our site submission was successful.

Can you confirm since you are an editor if this has happened?

Thanks for your time.

DMOZ guidelines say to submit once only. Once a site has been received the only way it is removed is if an editor rejects it so there is no need to re-submit ever, unless an editor specifically tells you to. In fact the submission form, that you agreed to follow when submitting, actually contains dire warnings of severe penalties for submitting the same site over and over, especially if using multiple URLs as well. At best, submitting repeatedly irritates editors and delays a review.

So at present, whilst we sort out a little bit of a mess you have caused, there is no information available on your suggestion. Do not submit your site or any variation on the theme again to any category. Instead, sit back and be patient, you know we have received the site more than once, so that is as much as you can do. It will be reviewed when an editor is able to do so, might be tomorrow, might be 2 years down the line, there is no way to predict. Anything further you do will at least delay review further and may possibly result in you being viewed as a spammer, which I am sure you do not want to happen. Thanks.

It used to say:

Procedure After Your Site is Submitted

An ODP editor will review your submission to determine whether to include it in the directory. Depending on factors such as the volume of submissions to the particular category, it may take several weeks or more before your submission is reviewed. Please only submit a URL to the Open Directory once. Again, multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites. Disguising your submission and submitting the same URL more than once is not permitted. If a site you submitted has not been listed after three weeks, you may submit it again or you may send an e-mail to an editor of the category for which the site was submitted.

(bolding mine)

ie submit once, submit again after 3 weeks, not submit every 3 weeks

Moot point as it hasn't said that for a while now anyway (it changed to: If a site you submitted has not been listed after a month, you may check its status at the dmoz public forums.)

No big deal, just a clarification.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. We don't want to irritate the editors, we didn't want to create a mess and we really don't want to be considered a spammer. The only thing spam is good for is jokes in Monty Python movies :)

We'll do as suggested, sit back and be patient. Hopefully it won't be two years from now when we get a review.

Thanks again for your time and consideration.

I'd like to know the status of http://www.monterey2600.com.

Site was submitted on Feb. 4, 2005, to:

http://dmoz.org/Computers/Hacking/Groups/2600/

On March 25 I asked for a status update. The reply was "there is no information available on your suggestion. Do not submit your site or any variation on the theme again to any category"

Can you please tell me if there is now information on it's status and/or is it waiting for review?

I made sure to wait one month from the original post before asking again.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A March submittal is waiting there for review now.

Great news! Thanks for the reply.

Just so I follow the rules, now that it's waiting for review, is this where if after a month it doesn't show up I come back and ask again for a revised status report?

Thanks again for your time.

A month was what we used to do, but it got that we were spending more time answering status requests than actually editing.

So now we ask submitters to come back after 6 months, if they don't see the site already listed. (i.e. on or after October 26th)

In all other regards, your statements are correct. :)
