Guest njohnson Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 Our site http://www.qvhonline.com was submitted quite some time ago. I believe that it was originally submitted late last year. I understand that there are a lot of submissions to go through, but I have not heard anything about my listing. I believe that the listing was submitted to http://dmoz.org/Business/Telecommunications/Communications_Providers/Phone_Card_Distributors/ --Nick
Meta mcoupal Posted April 1, 2003 Meta Posted April 1, 2003 It's currently pending review with under 300 sites. You can use *this thread* to re-check the status after 30 days or more (if you like) Curlie: Been trying to give up the editing addiction since day 1. :moz:
Guest njohnson Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 Ok, thanks. This may be a stupid question, but any idea on how long it will take to get through 300 sites? --Nick
Meta mcoupal Posted April 1, 2003 Meta Posted April 1, 2003 We have no way of estimating. There's too many factors. Sorry Curlie: Been trying to give up the editing addiction since day 1. :moz:
Guest njohnson Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 I have another question about my submission. I just submitted my site to another category (I forgot that it was not acceptable to submit to multiple categories). I found that my site may fit better it the following site: http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Telecommunications/Communications_Providers/Long_Distance_Calling/International/ Was that wrong to do? Also, I was told earlier this month when I applied to become an editor that the "category that is currently under revision. We are not accepting new editors for categories undergoing change." I don't recall exactly which category I applied for, but it was one of the categories that is connected to international long distance and/or calling cards. Do you know if this is still the case? --Nick
Guest njohnson Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Ok, I'm sorry, I guess I thought that since I was asking about a different category and submission that it should be a new thread. Here is my question again. (Again, this is a different category than I had previously asked about.) I recently submitted our site http://www.qvhonline.com to the following category http://dmoz.org/Business/Telecommunications/Communications_Providers/Long_Distance_Calling/International/ I was wondering if you could tell me how many sites are waiting for review ahead of me. Thanks --Nick
lachenm Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 >>I recently submitted our site<< You're not kidding. It is far too soon to be asking for a status update on a site submitted on April 1, 2003. We ask that you wait at least a month. Please come back again in May (or later). >>I was wondering if you could tell me how many sites are waiting for review ahead of me.<< As has been discussed in many other threads here, "ahead" has no real meaning in the ODP. Unreviewed sites can be sorted several ways, so your site could show up at many different positions. Furthermore, editors are not obligated to review the sites in any particular order, so even giving you a listing of all possible positions of your site in the pool would be meaningless.
Guest njohnson Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 I'm sorry, my mistake. I must have mistunderstood the previous response. I will wait.
Guest njohnson Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 Well, it's been over 30 days. I can see from my bookmarks that there are still over 300 sites waiting for review in this category. /Business/Telecommunications/Communications_Providers/Phone_Card_Distributors/ Any chance of getting my site listed? --Nick
motsa Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 If you mean is there a chance it will ever be listed, of course there is. If you mean is there a chance it will be listed soon, well, you already know that we can't estimate reviewing timeframes. I'd guess you're looking at a fair bit longer of a wait given the backlog and level of activity there.
Guest njohnson Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 Still waiting on my site listing in http://dmoz.org/Business/Telecommunications/Communications_Providers/Phone_Card_Distributors/ I checked from my bookmarks on my editors console and see that another editor looked at listing my site, but decided to wait since they throught that I (editor naj) might be associated with this site. I am confused. I have never tried to hide that fact. Is it a problem that I am an editor also? Actually, I have considered applying to be the editor for this cat since I am familiar with the industry. What are your thoughts? --Nick
lachenm Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Hi Nick, There is absolutely no problem with an editor having his or her own site listed. I'd guess that a very large percentage of editors have sites listed. At the moment, I am attempting to clarify the situation regarding your site, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Although I'm not a meta, I'd say that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being an editor of a category in which you have a site -- as long as you: 1. are honest about your affiliations from the very start. 2. can remain unbiased in your editing of the category.
lachenm Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 After checking on the situation, I think that the editor note was misleading you. No one has any problem with your editor status. Your site is currently awaiting review, so just sit back, take a deep breath, relax, and wait...
Guest njohnson Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 ok. It's just that I've been waiting since November to get listed. What about the idea of my applying for this cat. I don't want to break any rules. If I did get this cat I would go through the other sites before listing mine. I have already built a list of sites in my bookmarks that either need to be removed or updated. --Nick
raggedyrugs Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 On applying for the cat. That's between you and an approving meta. If you believe you have enough edits and the ability to handle it properly, go for it! If not, it wouldn't hurt to get more edits under your belt. Disclaimer: I have not looked at which cat/cats you currently edit or the number of your edits.
