SoldBySanta Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 http://www.soldbysanta.com was recently submitted to: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Pennsylvania/Regions/Southeast/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate/ but the category has been deleted. The other existing regional categories are all still shown...except Southeast PA. Please advise if I need to re-submit. Thank you. (sorry if this thread duplicates...I had a browser error when submitting)
bekahm Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 I don't edit in that area, so I can't give you a status check, but it apears that the category you mention is being merged with http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Pennsylvania/Metro_Areas/Philadelphia_Metro/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate
oneeye Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Any existing submissions are (must be) moved before a category can be deleted. So no, there is no need to resubmit, the site will be moved by an editor. Probably to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Pennsylvania/Localities/E/East_Norriton where it should have been suggested in the first place.
SoldBySanta Posted April 11, 2005 Author Posted April 11, 2005 So no' date=' there is no need to resubmit, the site will be moved by an editor. Probably to [url']http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Pennsylvania/Localities/E/East_Norriton[/url"] where it should have been suggested in the first place. Thank you for your reply, but I couldn't disagree more with where http://www.soldbysanta.com should have been suggested. My understanding of ODP's purpose is not to tell someone were an office is located, but what the website is about. As a result, I believe it should be moved to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Pennsylvania/Metro_Areas/Philadelphia_Metro/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate/ as bekahm referenced, earlier. The sites previously listed in the deleted category which I suggested now appear here & this category most accurately describes my real estate website. Kind regards.
Alucard Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 In Regional, and especially for Real Estate, sites are listed according to one thing - the location of their office. If the coverage area is for a whole county or metro area, for example, then that can be stated in the description (at the editor's discretion) but in terms of which category it gets listed in, the guidelines are very very strict. For further reading - our editing guidelines for Real Estate sites are public and are available here http://dmoz.org/guidelines/regional/realestate.html#where Hope this helps. Thanks
SoldBySanta Posted April 11, 2005 Author Posted April 11, 2005 I suppose part of my confusion over this stems from the fact that I did not seek to submit to Regional, but Business. However, upon drilling down within Business to the "appropriate" category, the system switched it over to Regional at some level. So, being a first-time submitter to ODP, I neither realized, nor anticipated to be drilling in Business and end up in Regional. So, with that being said, I appreciate the responses and I'll just let the editor do whatever (s)he finds appropriate when time permits. Thanks, again...Robert
Alucard Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 It was decided quite a while ago that essentially, all sellers of Real Estate are by their nature Regional, and so only listed in that part of the directory, and not the business part.
