Guest cpcoronel Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Hi, what's the submission status for www.casca-grossa.com ? submited to http://www.dmoz.com/Shopping/Sports/Martial_Arts/Submission_Fighting_and_MMA/ Thanks
lachenm Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Awaiting review in a small pool of about a dozen sites. Please feel free to ask again after at least one month. If you do, please reuse this thread, instead of starting a new one.
uzs980 Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 The site was submitted on March 24th. Please leave at least one month between submitting and asking for a status report.
Guest cpcoronel Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 I've sent a couple more times last year and nothing happenned...It's been almost a year that I've been sending the page to be added. What should I do? I appreciate all your help!
Guest Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Every time you re submit it overwrites the previous submission. Just be patient, otherwise you will continually move to the bottom of the pile when sorted by date (editors don't have to work in date order though).
Guest cpcoronel Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 My page still hasn't been listed. Can someone help me?? Please, please, please!!!! I think I've been patient enough, waiting since March... is this normal??
Meta pvgool Posted July 19, 2003 Meta Posted July 19, 2003 "is this normal??" Unfourtunately, yes. Due to the enormous amounts of new sites that get submitted to ODP it sometimes will take several months before someone has the time to take a look at it. I even know of sites that have waited over one year before they were evaluated. As far as I can see your submission hasn't been touched by an of the editors. The positive thing about this: it hasn't been rejected You will have to wait longer, sorry. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
Guest cpcoronel Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 This is very frustating, specially knowing that so many qualified people (me included) want to become an editor but for some minor reasons you don't accept them. Thanks and I really hope that someone could check my site sometime soon. Carol
Meta kokopeli Posted July 19, 2003 Meta Posted July 19, 2003 This is very frustating, specially knowing that so many qualified people (me included) want to become an editor but for some minor reasons you don't accept them. Individuals are denied for valid reasons, not minor ones. While I don't have anything to do with accepting or denying applications, I've been an editor for 3 years and believe that there is a good process intact. It is the job of a Meta to approve applicants who are going to do a good job editing. If for example someone was accepted that submitted spelling errors, sites that didn't belong listed, etc...then that will likely continue and someone else will need to go in and correct those mistakes--causing much more time to be lost in the long run. If you want to be an editor, and truly want to make a contribution as opposed to just listing your own site--then that is WONDERFUL and you should go for it. You can get tips by going to http://www.resource-zone.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=bemome and reading thread posts, and studying http://dmoz.org/guidelines/. Good luck
Guest cpcoronel Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 Thanks for the answer. I have one other question about becoming an editor. Is an editor supposed to search for new pages to add or just review the requests that come in? I see categories that have so many web sites missing? I've already searched and they are not listed. This specific category already has an editor. How does this work?
Meta tuisp Posted July 19, 2003 Meta Posted July 19, 2003 The FAQ and General Advice thread in the Becoming an Editor forum states: "It's OK to apply for a category that already has a listed editor. Almost all categories provide opportunities for more than one editor to make useful contributions, and no editor "owns" a category. Also, it is possible that the listed editor is not very active. However, we do try to avoid creating situations where conflict is likely, so there might be a little extra scrutiny of your request if you ask for a category with an editor listed." And it's expected of editors that they actively search for good sites to add to categories they are listed in, not only process submitted sites. Hope that helps
raggedyrugs Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 >>>Is an editor supposed to search for new pages to add or just review the requests that come in?<<< Most submissions to the ODP are secondary and even terciary to some editors. Editors should find new listings by searching engines, phone books, billboards, newspapers, and any other means to find possible listings if editing time allows it. ODP's search feature has been "rolled back" while the upgrade is ongoing. Sites may very well be listed and not showing as so. >>>This specific category already has an editor. How does this work?<<< Because a category has an editor listed usually doesn't affect an application for a new editor, or show the level of activity of a current editor. My only suggestion about applying is the "make sure you read_and_understand the guidelines" , especially the section concerning Titles and Descriptions. Looking at the title and description for the one you submitted, it is "my" opinion that it definitely needs to be revamped to comply with the guidelines. Lose the hype, advertising, and only the "proper title" should be in the Title box. Good Luck!
Guest cpcoronel Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 raggedyrugs, if at least my submission had been declined I would re-write it, but don't remember what I wrote since it's been such a long time. Can I change? How? It is not easy to be listed in this directory. I thought the editor's responsibility was also edit and fix the text pertaining to the web sites listed. Can I find out about the status of this submission??? I still want my site listed and would really appreciate if someone could help me. Thanks
lachenm Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 It is not easy to be listed in this directory. I thought the editor's responsibility was also edit and fix the text pertaining to the web sites listed. It is. Raggedyrugs was giving you advice about applying to be an editor, not about getting a site listed. However, it is good advice anyhow for people who are suggesting links to use appropriate titles and descriptions. If submitters make the editors' jobs easier, sites can be listed more quickly. Can I find out about the status of this submission??? Sure! Your site was listed on July 20. It should appear on the public side whenever it syncs with the editor side. Unfortunately, this normally quick process has been halted by the ongoing upgrades, and we don't know when it will resume, but staff is working on a fix.
