Guest JPLavalley Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Can some check the status of "www.Enlighten.Net" to the "Top: Computers: Software: Intranet" category? Thx.
lachenm Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 I'm afraid that category has a large pool of unreviewed sites. It is waiting with a couple hundred others. Sorry. Please feel free to check again after at least a month, and please reuse this thread if you do.
Guest JPLavalley Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Thanks... Its possible that my site is in there multiple times as two or three of us (at my company) have been discussing this since August. Sounds like this category needs additional editors...
lachenm Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 I only see one. If you submitted multiple times, the new ones overwrote the older ones. There is no need to resubmit. However, I notice that you are located in Farmington, CT. You might want to apply for a Regional listing in their Computers subcategory. A Regional listing should be entirely separate from your Topical category listing, and should not affect your other submission. The backlog in that category is somewhat smaller (0).
Guest JPLavalley Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Thanks again.. I'll look into becoming an editor (although I suspect its too time consuming for now).
lachenm Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 You're welcome. If you do look into becoming an editor (and I would encourage you to do so -- we can always use good people), I'd suggest applying for a different category. With so many unreviewed sites, it seems unlikely that a new editor would be granted permissions there (though I'm not a meta, so I can't say for certain). You would be better off finding a smaller category (say a hobby, a personal interest, your hometown -- or a subcategory of your hometown). Edit there for a while, see if you like it (it doesn't have to be a huge time commitment), and after you get some experience, you will be much more likely to get permission to edit in a more backlogged area.
Guest JPLavalley Posted May 5, 2003 Posted May 5, 2003 Just checking in to see if any progress has been made on the category: "Top: Computers: Software: Intranet". I'm specifically interested in www.Enlighten.Net.
lachenm Posted May 5, 2003 Posted May 5, 2003 I'm afraid it's still waiting, still with a large number of other sites. Sorry the news isn't better, but feel free to check back again after at least a month.
Guest JPLavalley Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 Was any progress made at all? or should I move on to another more likely listing?
motsa Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 >>or should I move on to another more likely listing? I would hope you followed our submission instructions and took the time to pick the most appropriate category to submit your site to the first time. Picking another category to submit to just in the hopes of speeding up your review will generally only have the opposite effect (or at the very least no effect at all except to perhaps annoy editors).
Guest JPLavalley Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 I understand your concern about "annoying" the editors, hence the reason I asked if any progress was made on my selected category. I've been attempting to get my site listed for 10 months now and I'm getting annoyed.
Alucard Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 I'm sorry you are getting annoyed - I can understand the frustration. There are many *many* sites awaiting review, and the *volunteer* editors are doing all they can to work on them all. I'm sure you have seen elsewhere on this forum that we have been having server problems for a long while now, and this has made the job of working with the directory annoying to say the least. So the general frustration level is higher, no doubt. We just hope that the work currently being undertaken will help the issues with the servers, so that the editors who haven't given up can come back and start reviewing sites in a more productive manner. That having been said, the popularity of the ODP means that we have more submissions than the editors can deal with - and that means we have backlogs. Our constant pleas for more *good* editors are an attempt to improve the situation. Short of that there is nothing we can do.
