Guest bradles Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 Just wanted to check status of www.printedvisions.com.au submitted to Business/Arts and Entertainment/Photography/Photographers/Wedding and Events/Oceania/Australia I had trouble with my browser when trying to submit it a few weeks ago so I tried submitting it again today but still had trouble. I just wanted to see if it got through and how long I should expect to wait before it is on the directory. Thanks.
lachenm Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 You would probably have received a quicker response if you had provided a clickable link to the category in question: http://dmoz.org/Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Photographers/Wedding_and_Events/Oceania/Australia I don't see your site in that category, nor is there any evidence that your site was moved or deleted. What kind of message did you get when you tried to submit? Incidentally, you would also be eligible for a Regional/ branch listing in your locality. Perhaps Melbourne?
motsa Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 Just want to clarify that the Melbourne locality category is strictly for companies that are located in the Melbourne CBD. I believe you are located in Oakleigh East so you would submit to http://dmoz.org/Regional/Oceania/Australia/Victoria/Localities/O/Oakleigh_East not Melbourne.
lachenm Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 Good catch motsa! I didn't look at the site too closely -- just saw the prominent "Melbourne" -- which is why I said "perhaps" when mentioning Melbourne. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
Guest bradles Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 lachenm, I just tried to submit again at 8.45am Melbourne - Australia time and it took about 6-7 minutes before it displayed an error page with the text below: "Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@dmoz.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log." It was in the following category: http://dmoz.org/Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Photographers/Wedding_and_Events/Oceania/Australia What should I do now - I'd really appreciate getting my submission through but I'm not having any luck. Kind Regards, Brad Kennedy
Guest bradles Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 lachenm, I just tried to submit again for http://dmoz.org/Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Photographers/Wedding_and_Events/Oceania/Australia and I got the following message after another 6-7 minute wait for the browser: "Submit a Site to the Open Directory Sorry, we could not determine your IP address for this submission. This may be because your browser or ISP has cached the previous page. There is no need to resubmit; your site is in a holding area. Once we've verified that it is not spam, we'll add it to the unreviewed sites in the category you've requested. We apologise for the inconvenience. Please go back in your browser if you need to resubmit the form." Can you please verify if my page has been submitted or not? Thanks.
lachenm Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 Yes, your page was submitted. The second message means that it was caught by our spam filters, and sent to a processing area. Don't worry, we know that a lot of non-spam submissions get caught by the filters, and we look at all of the submissions. Your site will be processed and sent to the correct category. There is no need to resubmit (though I admit that page is confusing). Please feel free to check on your site's status after at least a month (re-using this thread).
Guest bradles Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 Thanks lachenm, I don't mean to be a pest but could you check to see if my regional submission went through in http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add.cgi?where=Regional/Oceania/Australia/Victoria/Localities/O/Oakleigh_East It said a similar thing and I just wanted to be sure it went through. I really appreciate your help. Thanks again. Brad Kennedy.
lachenm Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 If you submitted from the same computer, it most likely also got caught by the spam filter and is in the processing area (the filter gets set off by certain configurations). As long as you got the second message (the one that said there was no need to resubmit), there is no need to resubmit.
Guest bradles Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 lachenm, Thanks for your help...I really appreciate it. Brad
