jcraven Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 We are in the process of changing the name of one of our products. This product has a listing in the ODP (it's a deep link on our site) and we'd like to update the title, description, and URL. This being said, can I still use the update form? I would follow the instructions and make the old page have a link and a note that tells the ODP editor exactly what has happened. Is that the right thing to do? Any other suggestions so that I can hopefully make this as easy as possible for the Editor? Thanks
oneeye Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 This being said, can I still use the update form? Yes I would follow the instructions and make the old page have a link and a note that tells the ODP editor exactly what has happened. Yes please. Any other suggestions so that I can hopefully make this as easy as possible for the Editor? If updating titles and descriptions remember not to pack them with keywords, repetition, advertising speak, or hype - it will appear at first glance to be an attempt to "optimise" the listing and risks getting summarily rejected.
jcraven Posted April 25, 2005 Author Posted April 25, 2005 OK one more -- if the editor who reviews it decides that it should be in another category, is it then converted into a "new submission" or can an update still happen? Thanks again!
Meta windharp Posted April 25, 2005 Meta Posted April 25, 2005 What happens depends on the questioin if editor has access to the target category. If he has, he will most likely move the entry and you won't notice an absence. If he hasn't, he will move the entry to the target category where it waits for a re-review. ntries already touched by an editor like this are marked, so often processed faster than new submissions. jcraven Posted April 25, 2005 Author Posted April 25, 2005 Appreciate the prompt answer. As an aside, it amazes me how many people on this board get into arguments with editors....I've had all of my questions answered promptly and thoroughly. Thanks!!
spectregunner Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 Well, you didn't start your first post with...."I submitted 17 minutes ago, I'm not listed so all you editors are corrupt." That has a lot to do with it.
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted April 25, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted April 25, 2005 I would like to add to windharp's answer, that, in some category trees, there are places for an editor (not a submitter) to suggest expedited review of a site which is moved because of a change in focus, rather than because (as I just saw a few minutes ago) a used car dealer's site was submitted in a bridal wear category. We don't want sites to be lost because of a site upgrade any more than you do.
