macd-design Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 Please let me know the status of http://www.macdonalddesign.com, submitted to: http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Design/Graphic_Design/Firms/M/ I am concerned because the section that I submitted to over a month ago is now gone. There is a page with an error on it now that reads: "The page you attempted to access does not exist on this site. The closest matches are: Business/Business_Services/Design/Graphic_Design Business/Business_Services/Design Business/Business_Services Business Open Directory Main Page ...." Very frustrating, confusing.
Meta hutcheson Posted April 29, 2005 Meta Posted April 29, 2005 We have no track of this submittal. Please re-submit.
macd-design Posted April 29, 2005 Author Posted April 29, 2005 But what happened to the entire section? Is it coming back? Should I pick another section?
spectregunner Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 It appears that this particular part of the directory is undergoing a restructuring. It will probably fully resurrect itself as http://editors.dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Design/Graphic_Design/Designers/ with a full alphabar (although that is just speculation on my part.) Perhaps one of the editors with additional permissions can provide further enlightenment.
Meta Artisands Posted April 29, 2005 Meta Posted April 29, 2005 The Graphic Design category is indeed undergoing a restructure and the changes will take some time to become completely visible on the public side of the directory. Resubmitting your site should not be necessary as it would have been moved, with other unreviewed sites, to the appropriate new category. I would suggest bumping your original thread when it has been at least thirty days from your most recent submission. At that time an editor can tell you where your site is waiting or if there is a need to resubmit. Sorry for the confusion. Curlie Meta editor artisands CurlieCrew
macd-design Posted April 29, 2005 Author Posted April 29, 2005 Sorry for the double post, browser error. continued... hutcheson says there is no record of my submission, and to resubmit. (Note, this is the second time my submission has been "lost." i trid last year in early 2004 with the same result, a lost submission after checking back to this board for 3 months. So I gave up at that point.) spectregunner tells me it appears to be undergoing restructuring and it will probably "resurrect" itself somewhere else. No course of action recommended. And you, Artisan, tell me not to resubmit and to bump my original post 30 days since my last submission. it's bee over 30 days since my last submission. I have no idea of what I should do from here. And, I am going to be very disappointed is someone simply says, check back in 30 days.
oneeye Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 And, I am going to be very disappointed is someone simply says, check back in 30 days. Then you will be disappointed I'm afraid as there is no information yet on the suggestion. Come back in 30 days, do not resubmit in the meantime, and the most likely place the site would have gone to under the reorganisation is http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Design/Graphic_Design/Designers/Multi-Discipline/North_America/United_States/California/
macd-design Posted May 2, 2005 Author Posted May 2, 2005 Thank you for a complete answer. I guess I'll chack back then. Is it normally this hard to get listed in the ODP?
spectregunner Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Well, your experience has not been typical. Now some people equate length of time with degree of difficuly, and if that is the case, then people who have been waiting more than three years would find this difficult. In your case, the reorganization makes things just a bit more complicated, which is why you are being advised to be patient and to wait. It is difficult for an editor not directly involved in a reorg to come in and make accurate statements with regard to the status of a given website awaiting review. By being asked to wait again, we are hoping the dust will settle a bit and we can give you a difinitive response. On the upside, a category reorganization means that editors are actively doing their thing in that part of the directory, and often most or all of theunreviewed sites are reviewed as a final step in the reorg. Again, we cannot make any promises, if you look up the word "random" in the dictionary, you'll usually geta picture of an ODP editor.
