Sites entered but not listed after 2-3 months?

I read somewhere that the engine only gets re-indexed every so often but I entered a heap of sites into a category 2 or three months ago and they still aren'nt indexed?

Well, since you didn't give us any URLs, I suspect that your question is theoretical rather than practical.

 

Had you attempted to answer that theoretical question by reviewing our most excellent faq, you would have learned a several things, including how long it takes before an editor reviews a site.

 

If, however, you would rather we check on the status of this heap of sites, you'll need to give us the URLs and categories where you submitted (in clickable form).

I am an editor - there are three new links in that category (named in my post) that still are'nt active in a directory search. Just wondering if I missed something or if it really does take that long.

If you are an editor you should

1) add your editor name in the R-Z profile

2) ask for status change in Member to Editor

3) ask editing related questions in the internal forums

4) very probably know the answer to this question (if not the answer is given in the R-Z FAQ, not very sure what you are asking it is either "how long does it take for a site to be reviewed" or "why can't the site be found by the ODP search" but both are answered in the FAQ)

5) as an editor you have all resources availbale to view the activities of a site (questions can be asked on the internal forum for new editors as we can't answer these questions here at R-Z))

ya ok - well Ive done all that, but no nothing can be found on search. As the FAQ says - its not a very reliable method of checking so I guess my question is - Ive submitted the sites to the Category - they appear to be listed - so that means that they are active?

 

Ive tried searching for different keywords/urls etc.

Why can't I find my site when I use ODP search?

 

If you (or anybody else) can see the site in the directory it is listed. As we are not a search engine we don't care about our serach database not being uptodate.

Directory search doesn't work from the live directory and can be a week or more out of date. If you can see it from the editor view of the cat, it's listed.

 

As has already been said, this sort of question is better asked in the internal new editors forum.
