Guest Posted June 2, 2002 Posted June 2, 2002 "Unable to fork sendmail" This is the error message I keep getting when I try to submit my request form to become an editor. Are the staff at DMOZ aware of this problem? I emailed them, hopefully they will let me know wether the problem has been corrected or not. I am trying to become an editor for this directory: Business: Industries: Manufacturing: Machinery and Tools: Cleaning Equipment: Pressure Washers Thank you in advance for your replies. Jerome N.
totalxsive Posted June 2, 2002 Posted June 2, 2002 I think staff are aware of it - I've seen something about it in the editor forums. I suggest you save what you wrote in your application and re-apply in a day or two. In the meantime, read the Guidelines, and improve it for next time /images/icons/smile.gif
Meta enarra Posted June 3, 2002 Meta Posted June 3, 2002 Yes, automatic sending of e-mails (like the ones that go out to new editors among others) is not working. At the moment we have no news on when the problem will be fixed. In the mean time, patience, it will work again soon I'm sure. /images/icons/smile.gif
totalxsive Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 Just to let you know, our programmer is officially aware of the problem and is looking into it. In the meantime, keep trying.
Meta enarra Posted June 4, 2002 Meta Posted June 4, 2002 Problem seems to be fixed now. Feel free to apply again. If you receive another error let us know. /images/icons/smile.gif
Guest Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 If this was ever fixed, it was fixed for all of a day. I have tried to apply EVERY DAY this month (July) and I get the Unable to fork sendmail error. What is more, I have emailed EVERY meta editor about it and nothing has been done! I hope you can appreciate my frustration - I have done the right thing by everybody and nobody has even bothered to offer an explanation!
donaldb Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Seems strange. We've had a steady stream of new editors in July. Someone just posted about this in the internal forum so hopefully it can be resolved for you. One thing I would suggest which seems to solve all browser related issues is to totally clear out your browser's cache before you try again. Could that error page just be getting stuck in the cache? That seems pretty farfetched even to me, but you never know /images/icons/smile.gif
Meta jophan Posted July 22, 2002 Meta Posted July 22, 2002 >>I have emailed EVERY meta editor about it<< I am sure the ODP staff will hunt the bug down as fast as possible. However, this statement of yours is not quite true -- which is a good thing, by the way, since emailing all 100+ meta editors about it would not be appreciated. And as donaldb mentions, we have had about a thousand new applications the last month, so it does not seem to be a very widespread bug.
