guddu Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Hi, I would like to ask the status of the update request for http://www.geocities.com/bookloversindia/ in the category Top: Shopping: Publications: Books: Local Interest: Asia: India The category has been last updated on 23:07 PT, Sunday, April 13, 2003 However, I see no updation to the listing. Please provide me the status. Regards Guddu
guddu Posted April 19, 2003 Author Posted April 19, 2003 Please Help! Should I wait for some more time or the update request has been rejected? My last post for seeking an editor for the same category vanished after I posted another message. Please help me as I have been trying to update the same listing for the last one year. But could not get a response. Now, after I joined resource-zone, I found all the editors to be really helpful and do appreciate their hard work. I have changed the description for the same update request in the last posting for the update request and hope it has not been rejected being considered as keyword stuffing. Regards Guddu
motsa Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 Your update request is waiting in the queue. Someone will get to it eventually. You can come back to this thread in a month or more to get a status update.
guddu Posted April 20, 2003 Author Posted April 20, 2003 Thanks motsa Wishing you a very very Happy Easter Guddu
guddu Posted May 22, 2003 Author Posted May 22, 2003 Hi! Please provide the status for updation of www.geocities.com/bookloversindia/ Is it still there in the queue? Thanks and Regards Guddu
Meta kokopeli Posted May 22, 2003 Meta Posted May 22, 2003 Your site was updated this week, although not exactly as requested by you as some of your request did not meet ODP guidelines for descriptions.
guddu Posted May 23, 2003 Author Posted May 23, 2003 Thanks for the information. I just checked it to see the description as: Offering related topics including: history, literature, religion, philosophy, women studies, and oceanography. Can you please add "art," before history. "Art" is a very popular subject and I would not like to miss it for my client. The website provides a good list of books on art also. (It was there initially but the problem with the previous description was that it focussed "only on art" where the website deals in many subjects). Thanks and Regards Guddu
Meta kokopeli Posted May 23, 2003 Meta Posted May 23, 2003 ODP is having some technical problems, and I can't even get the category to load. Regardless, ODP is not interested in key wording, or listing every single aspect of what a site does but rather providing a description that gives a consumer a good idea as to what they might find on the site. You are welcome to submit another update, although I would suggest waiting a day or so. Soon, the technical problems will be a thing of the past <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> but the upgrade is quite extensive and I've encountered quite a few errors this morning.
guddu Posted May 24, 2003 Author Posted May 24, 2003 Thanks kokopeli I appreciate your help a lot. Thanks once again. Please tell the status for the same site in : http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Publications/Books/General_Interest/B/ Can I get the site transfered from "Books/Local_Interest/India" or added to following particular category along with the listing in Books/General_Interest? http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/India/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Books/ Guddu
Meta kokopeli Posted May 24, 2003 Meta Posted May 24, 2003 Your anthropology link from the front page doesn't work, it leads to an error at http://www.geocities.com/bookloversindia/anthropolgy.html Your site has been denied in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Publications/Books/General_Interest/B/, as being appropriately listed elsewhere. You can have one shopping listing in the most appropriate place , and your topic appears to me to be specific to India, and therefore would belong where it is in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Publications/Books/Local_Interest/Asia/India/ as opposed a general purpose category. Your site may qualify for regional, your prices are in US dollars and yet I see you are located in India (I mention this only because I was trying to figure out intent of site, no US currency rate need be supplied for shopping provided you ship from your country somewhere else within the world). It looks like you don't necessarily have a brick and mortar establishment where others can walk in and shop--my question would be do you ship throughout India? It isn't clear to me as I visit your site. If you do, I would suggest submitting to http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/India/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Books/. <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" />
guddu Posted May 24, 2003 Author Posted May 24, 2003 Thanks for a quick reply and the information about the website error. This has been rectified. Thank you. The client supplies both within India and to world libraries, museums and individuals ( U.S.A, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, Singapore etc.) by Air Mail / by Sea Mail as advised by the customers. Therefore, the prices are in US$ as this is a universal currency throughout the world. Also, though the books are published in India and the subject matter relates to India and Southasian countries, these are studied in different departments of libraries all over the world. So, this make them of General Interest. Regards Guddu
motsa Posted May 24, 2003 Posted May 24, 2003 Who reads them has no bearing on where the site gets listed.
Meta kokopeli Posted May 24, 2003 Meta Posted May 24, 2003 I agree with motsa above. While it may feel like general interest to you--from our standpoint it is subject specific and therefore is listed appropriately. The subject content of the site is what we are looking at, not that the target audience is viewed to be general. Listed sites are based on content.
guddu Posted May 25, 2003 Author Posted May 25, 2003 That's Okay. I used to think that users were also kept in mind. Anyways, what about the regional listing?
Meta kokopeli Posted May 25, 2003 Meta Posted May 25, 2003 As I mentioned above, I would suggest submitting your url for evaluation <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> As far as <<I used to think that users were also kept in mind. >> I believe they are. That is why categories are separated according to the content of the sites in them and why sites are listed in the one most appropriate place. The category path is there to state what a site is offering (information, products, location, depends on branch) as opposed to stating the type of people that use a site. ODP is about content, and as a result the end user can go to a specific area to locate that content.
