Guest bashorney1 Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Beware: Submittal Companies may ruin your chances of being listed in ODP I recently signed up with a search engine submittal company, not knowing that they would submit my site to DMOZ along with the commercial search engines. I didn't realize this until I received their first submittal report which listed DMOZ. I then requested by email that they no longer submit to DMOZ as that violated submittal policies (no repeat submittals, no auto-submission software). This is part of the reply that I recieved: "As part of the submission process we cannot exclude or include any other site. DMOZ is included every month." Upon receipt of that I immediately canceled my subscription. Would name them but not sure if that's legal here. I suspect that many submission companies follow the same procedure anyway. Reccomend that anyone who has already submitted to ODP be cautious when signing up with one of these services. bashorney1
Alucard Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Yes, we have seen this sort of thing before. The companies will try to tell you they are doing you a favour by submitting every month, but all it takes is a look on this board (and in the submittal guides for the ODP) to know that this does more harm than good.
jeanmanco Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Not only that, but monthly submittal to search engines has no benefit either. See http://www.2createawebsite.com/traffic/submit-search-engine.html
jjwill Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Very good points. Might also note that some companies will also create and submit doorway urls that redirect to your site without your knowledge which will also do you great harm.
