My application to become an editor was rejected.

On my application, I clearly listed my site affiliations - a few unrelated personal pages for friends or family and a site that could potentially be listed in the category to which I was applying. I listed three sites that I'd include in the category if I were an editor, two nice sites I found that I felt would be good and the third was the site I already mentioned I was affiliated with and for which I have a submission I assume is still waiting for review. Was this a mistake, giving the appearance that my application was intended to get my site listed instead of having a true interest in editing the category?

I figured that, for the sake of being honest, it would be better to include my site as one of the three since I already have a site submission pending rather than list a third site worthy of inclusion which I'm sure I could find. It would seem to me that listing three sites other than my own for which I already have a submission would give the appearance of attempting to conceal my interest in my site's listing.

My application may have been rejected for completely different reasons such as mizspeling :) or that the sites (including mine) or the title/descriptions were inappropriate, but I think not (I'm an editor in another directory, one with lower standards I guess). I suspect the site affiliation/suggestion may have something to do with it and I'm just curious to know if suggesting a site I'm affiliated was a bad idea.

Thanks!

Using an affiliated site as a candidate URL is fine - whether or not it's already awaiting review in the category. More than that suggests that you want to join for selfish reasons.

We don't discuss the reasons why an editor application has been declined. If it's not one of the ones mentioned in the email, the evaluating meta will have added specific comments.

Don't feel bad!

I filled out the application for a region specifically stated in my first rejected application. So I followed the link and filled it out once again. It seems that the application specifically asks for:

Sites with which you are associated:

Please give details, including URLs, of any sites that you own or have designed or promoted, either in full or in part. Also, mention whether you have contributed content to any site, and give URLs as appropriate.

So I did and this is the rejection reply that I received:

The application specifically asks for 2 or 3 suggested URLs that fit the category. You only gave your own.

You do not have to become an editor to get your own sites listed. Simply use the "Suggest URL" link at the top of the category your site should be listed in.

We do not accept editors for the sole reason of adding their own sites.

If you honestly wish to become an editor and misunderstood the application, please read our General Guidelines for descriptions at http://dmoz.org/guidelines/describing.html#descriptions . Try reapplying with 2 or 3 (3 is preferable) suggested sites that would be listed in the category, not all belonging to you. Please supply accurate titles and descriptions. The titles should be the name of the site, firm or organization. The basic formula for a good description is: Description = Subject + Content. Say what the site is about and what information is contained on the web pages. Do not write a review on it, include marketing language, or use first/second person pronouns. Your spelling, capitalization, and sentence structure are also being evaluated.

Please also remember, the application needs to be complete, including the disclosure of web sites you own, created, or marketed in the section marked 'Affiliations'.

Thank you and good luck.

Seems you entered the information in the wrong fields (although the form seems very clear to me)

You enter the information about your affiliations in the field directly to the right of that questions.

Below that you are asked "Please provide 2 or 3 URLs, that you would add to this category along with titles and descriptions for each."

I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
