Guest Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 Hi I am the developer of a web site at www.perfectplot.co.uk (for Gladwish Land Sales). I would like to have it entered into the DMOZ but I find that someone has already entered it! This person is a land trader (reseller) who has been very cheeky and entered his site under Gladwish land Sales Name! I need to change the entry so that it points to the main site as above. Who do I speak to? Cheers
jimnoble Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 I take it that you're referring to http://www.land-for-sale-uk.co.uk/ who are listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Business_and_Economy/Property/Commercial. Both websites use the same trading name and address - Gladwish Land Sales, 47 London Road, Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 1AW. Oddly though, the other website's phone number is in the Aylesbury area whereas yours is in the Horsham area. My personal opinion is that both websites look as though they belong to the same organisation and both are directing enquiries to the same address. If the owners of the other website aren't you and are misbehaving in some way, perhaps you ought to take the matter up with them.
Guest Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 No no they do not belong to the same organisation. the www.perfectplot.co.uk website is the offical Gladwish Land Sales site...just 1 minute looking at it should tell you that. The other site is a trader who buys Gladwish Land and sells it on the public (nothing wrong with that, but he's very cheeky submitting his site in Gladwish name). www.perfectplot.co.uk belongs to the company I work for Objective Results Ltd who maintain the site for Gladwish.
motsa Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 I think I see what you're getting at. The site already listed actually states in their About Us section that "PD Land for Sale UK are specialist agents for Gladwish Land Sales who will act as principals in your purchase of your select plot of UK land." (emphasis mine) which seems support your statement that they are merely agents for Gladwish Land Sales. However, UK isn't my specialty so I'll leave it to one of the UK editors like jimnoble to determine what action to take in this case.
jimnoble Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 OK, I've slept on it and reexamined their website. It seems as though they are either your agents or your resellers. Either way, we would class them as affiliates offering no value to the directory. I'm delisting theirs and listing yours.
Guest Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 When I do a search for "Gladwish Land Sales" I see www.perfectplot.co.uk is correctly listed but it still also produces a link to http://www.land-for-sale-uk.co.uk/ Will this disappear soon? See the search results here: http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=gladwish+land+sales
Meta tuisp Posted April 24, 2003 Meta Posted April 24, 2003 Sorry, you're misinterpreting the search results: it gives both the cat where a site was found and its listing. But they were found only because both sites (the deleted one and yours) have the same title. In others words, the search index has not yet been updated and doesn't include your site at this moment. Updates normally happen once a week. HTH
Guest Posted May 5, 2003 Posted May 5, 2003 Not updated? I notice the index hasn't been updated yet or my requested change wasn't made.
Guest Posted May 5, 2003 Posted May 5, 2003 Re: Not updated? index not yet updated - Search database last updated on: Fri Apr 25 21:27:00 PDT 2003 (Information in the database was probably from 4 days earlier than that as it takes that long to generate) Look in the category itself http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Business_and_Economy/Property/Commercial/ <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
totalxsive Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 Re: It's still not updated? We're having server upgrades at the moment, so the search database probably won't be updated for at least another couple of weeks. Sorry.
