bradley Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Hi all - I'm a bit sketchy about the precise details of my application, I'm very sorry because I presume you have a limited ability to search without knowing direct links, exact usernames etc. Perhaps the confirmation emal you send out after an application should include the name of the category and the username submitted? My application dates the 11th July (GMT) The category was: http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Chats_and_Forums/Styles/ The username was phbradley The email used was philbradley+dmoz@gmail.com Thanks for your help, Phil
bradley Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 righto, thanks for your help - for future reference, was that the right category? what about the username? thanks Don
bradley Posted July 28, 2005 Author Posted July 28, 2005 ooo, mysterious! i remember not getting the username i usually use, but that's the problem! anyways, thanks for your help. Fingers crossed!
PetitMonde Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Status I have just read that submission statuses are not being disclosed anymore, and yet here IS a response to a submission status request. (http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40170) I submitted my site on 27th Jan 2005 - I was told to come back 6 months later. Well here I am, and I'm still none the wiser and told succinctly that I can no longer request submission status for my site. Now I'm lost - help me out here please? Thanks for any help you can give, PM.
spectregunner Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 We not not give site submission status reports. We continue to give status reports on editor applications. The two are vastly different. You were given an initial status report so you know that your suggestion was received. There is nothing else that you can do and no further assistance we can render.
PetitMonde Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Apologies I'm sure you understand my frustrations. I'll look before I leap next time
bradley Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 begging your pardon for the bump, i was just wondering if donald or some other kind soul could check how things are getting on, and also, what my username was? I'd be extremely grateful. I only ask because since I doubt the Open Directory is keen on leaving editor applications hanging for so long, I fear I may have been rejected with no word as to why... by all means though if you don't need my help editing that category, leave it hanging! I don't mean to pressure any expedient action :-) - I'm happy to go on editing JoeAnt instead, though I'd rather take the step up and help out DMOZ, which I view as a more well-thought-out project
donaldb Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Your application is still waiting to be reviewed. It might take a bit longer for us to get around to reviewing applications as reviewers go on summer vacations too The username was phbradley.
bradley Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 fantastic - i hope you also take holidays from time to time! thanks a lot for your help donaldb
bradley Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 sorry for the necropost, but it's been over 2 months since I applied to be an Editor; I appreciate there's no timescale on applications, but I can't think this is good for DMOZ?
donaldb Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 There's a limited pool of Meta and Catmod editors who can review applications. It's not unusual for an application to take a few months to be processed. We still manage to accept hundreds of applications every month, but there are many reasons why some applications might take a bit longer to be reviewed. For example, if your application was in Shopping or Games I probably wouldn't be the one to review as I tend to stay away from applications in those categories where I have less experience.
spectregunner Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 donald's advice is spot on; however I would like to add a twist. If, while you are waiting, you want to help the directory, pick a category -- any category -- and systematically click through the links. If you find bad links, non-existant content, or a site that is under construction, go to the permanent thread we have an file a report. That is an excellent way for non-editors to contribute to the cause. Do, however, take a minute to see how the editors who voluntarily staff that forum like to get reports formatted - that way the help you offer is really a help.
cnc85 Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 For example, if your application was in Shopping or Games I probably wouldn't be the one to review as I tend to stay away from applications in those categories where I have less experience.I can appreciate that there are a number of Cat Mods reviewing editor applications in those two sections as well, but I can't help but wonder if those sections are traditionally slow to be reviewed because I have applied to be an editor of one of those catergories and I was just wondering what sections are normally quick to be reviewed and which are normally slow to be processed.
jimnoble Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 I'm not aware that we keep statistics on that.
motsa Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Besides, you didn't apply "to be an editor of one of those catergories", you applied for a Regional category.
