Alucard Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Have you taken a look at the World area in the ODP? This is the part of the directory where sites with content not in the English language are organized. Have you noticed that there are quite a few languages which are not represented in there? Ever wondered why? Well, we need an editor that is fluent in the language in order to be able to list sites, and create categories in that tongue, and for some languages there is a distinct lack. Take a look in Curlie - Test: World - the second list of languages are ones where we have no corresponding World category. This is where we put sites which are in the language, but where we don't have enough knowledge of that language to edit proficiently. We really could use an editor who speaks that language and has a good enough knowledge of English to be able to communicate with English-speaking editors and to read the guidelines. So whether you speak Abkhazian, Cantonese, Nepali, Creole, Hmoob, Romani, Tongan, Urdu or Yiddish (or even Klingon!), please consider making an application to edit and make the ODP an even more international directory than it already is!
nevidonas Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 New languages at ODP ODP now has 2 more languages! * Curlie - language spoken in India, state of Gujarat ( Curlie - Regional: Asia: India: Gujarat ) by ~44 million people. The category now has 75 sites listed and has 2 active editors (of course, other are welcome to join as well * Curlie - language spoken in Southern Italy, island of Sicily ( Curlie - Regional: Europe: Italy: Sicily ) by ~5 million people. The category now has 53 sites listed and has 3 active editors. In addition, I would like to single out some more languages in Curlie - Test: World which are already quite developed, have many sites already listed, but do not have editor who could complete the work: * Curlie - Test: World: Georgian - language belongs to Caucasian family, it's official language of Republic of Georgia ( Curlie - Regional: Asia: Georgia ), spoken by more than 5 million people. We already have more than 100 sites in this language (submitted by our editors or by ODP users), there are many more on the web. Category has already build structure of subcategories. The problem is - currently there is no editor who would be fluent in Georgian and who could fine-tune this category to ODP standards (and to find and add more sites). * Curlie - national language of Pakistan, spoken by 100 million people. We already have more than 100 sites in this language (submitted by our editors or by ODP users), there are many more on the web. Category was built in Latin script, therefore it needs to be converted to Arabic script, all category names and descriptions rewritten. So whether you speak any of these or any other language in Curlie - Test: World , please consider making an application to edit and make the ODP an even more international directory than it already is
