srikondoji Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Hi, I have a website url: http://www.ebulawa.com bulawa(means Invitation) is a word in Urdu language. A popular word in Hyderabad/India city and well known across India/Pakistan/Bangladesh/M.East. I have created online invitation services for these regions with most of the templates matching their culture and region. I tried hard to find a category for Online Party Invitations for region covering India/Pakistan/Etc. I ended up including it in US (i believe). My question is, How can i request to create a new category for Online Party Invitations for that region (be it India, Pakistan etc) If i re-list my website in a new appropriate category (greetings category at present or a new appropriate category later) will i be punished for Spam? Or some volunteer will delete one listing and validate the other? Thanks for your responses. This board has often helped me get what i needed. Sridhar

Sridhar In addition to what i said above, My website offers unique services in that region. No website offers services like we do for that region and culture. This website was created with an inspiration from sendomatic/evite. So, i believe, there should be some specidic category for my line of services. Thanks again sri
Meta hutcheson Posted September 22, 2005 Meta Posted September 22, 2005 In the ODP, the websites of unclassifiable or cross-classification businesses, are listed in the Business & Economy category of the appropriate locality. It is inappropriate -- almost abusively so -- to create a single-parent category for a single site.

Please clarify this one again. Iam not sure, if this is too much asking. I would love to list it here http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Business_and_Economy/Event_Planning/ As my website area covers almost 8 countries of which 5 are in ASia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh,Indonesia, malasia) Also, luckily woth your pointer, i found Event Planning category there. Do u think this appropriate? Or should i go to much more specific category beneath it? What will happen to my earlier listing? I really don't want to spam ODP and get penalized. I also see no website listed there in the category i wish. Thanks again sri
motsa Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 You'll notice that he wrote "are listed in the Business & Economy category of the appropriate locality". Asia is a continent, not a locality.
srikondoji Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 Hi motsa, Thanks for the correction. I went ahead and submitted it to Regional: Asia: India: Business and Economy: Business Events Please let me know, if this is appropriate. I am exhausted in searching for an appropriate category and finally gave up searching anymore. There was not a link, i didnot click to see sub-categories appropriate enough for my website. Thanks again sri
motsa Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Well, India isn't a locality either; it's a country. Stop looking for an event planning category. Instead, start at Regional/Asia/India and find your locality.
giz Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Whoa! We need to clarify what the ODP means by a locality... the words locality and location are going to be very similar to someone who is not a native English speaker.
srikondoji Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 Hi motsa, Ooops. What should i do now? What do you mean by locality? Do you mean a city? If that is correct, then my website offers services for people spread in 8 countries. ON top of it, mine is not brick and mortar type business. Its a pure internet play. I atleast thought it should be listed within India, if continent was to generic and broad. Please guide me. Thanks sri
motsa Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 My posts were just explaining what hutcheson was talking about when he mentioned listing in a locality. And just to clarify, sites in Regional are generally not listed by the geographic area that the business serves but by the physical location of the company. I haven't looked at your site so my comments were strictly theoretical. You've submitted the site to the best category you yourself could find. If the editor reviewing it eventually finds a better category, they'll send it to be reveiwed there. So, you've done all you can do.
srikondoji Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 Hi motsa, As i go deeper into locality 'let us say Hyderabad', then Description of that contradicts my website services. For example look at the Description of this locality "Submit only sites relating to business and economic activities of Hyderabad." That is the reason, i went ahead and submitted it to this category. http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/India/Business_and_Economy/Business_Events/ In anycase, i assume fullfilling all the guidelines of ODP is impossible for some sites. Again, Thank you for your responses. Thanks to all those who responded. Sri
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted September 23, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted September 23, 2005 Without looking at your site, I might add that you could be correct in your placement in Asia. At least below the continent level, some businesses are listed by service area rather than by their physical location. However, in Regional, we categorize first by the location (either by physical location or by service area) and then the type of the business. However, if your business is an online business, it may not qualify for a listing in Regional at all.
srikondoji Posted September 23, 2005 Author Posted September 23, 2005 Hi Arubin, Iam trying to list my website for the past 1 year. Had to face lots of trouble to see a best category. Now that i went ahead and listed there, I will not attempt to relist it elsewhere. I may have already spammed DMOZ by three attempts in 1 year. Will just leave it to time to decide. Thanks for your response.
Alucard Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Will just leave it to time to decide. I think you are very wise.
