Hello,

My dmoz account (username - mickymo) went inactive in July. I was out of the country for a couple of months and was unable to edit one of the categories (but I did edit 2 of my other categories). The one category I did not edit was always a problem with over 80-90 submissions and often times even the page would not load or take a long time. I had posted in the forum asking for advice on reorganizing it by state/region, which I felt was the proper thing to do because of the volume. I was unable to edit the listings for a while as I was busy and then left the US for 2 months.

I requested for account reinstatement in late July then I waited for a month and saw my editor name disappear from the category pages (bottom) and so I requested again as I thought my account may be deleted if it is not reinistated. When I try to login the form it still says fill out the form for reinstatement. So, I am not sure if my reinstatement request is still pending.

Thanks for your assistance.

Well, is it possible to know if I did anything wrong - other than the fact that I did not edit one of the categories? I was there for about 2 years and I don't think I did anything wrong but I would like to know.

Thanks for your help.

Reinstatement requests are reviewed by meta editors (just like initial applications.) But the kicker is: one meta editor can't turn down a reinstatement request. A rejection has to be discussed, with at least five reviewers agreeing.

It's not possible to find out what the issue was: it might be concerns with ethics, or quality control, or anything else that might trigger an "editor removal" if the account had still been active (removals also require a consensus involving at least five meta-editors.)

This is not directed towards you but in my defence I wanted to clarify a few things.

About ethics - I know that I did not do anything wrong other than not editing the category which I wanted to reorganize better which was my mistake and I had considered resigning from it because of the volume. With regards to quality control - I can tell you that with my background both categories I was editing were being abused by previous editors and a number of companies had submitted several sites (one company owns 28 or so sites which they have tried to submit over time) and you can see a list of this documented in my posts in the editor forum. These days they are hiding their whois data with private registrations and are also using 3rd party DNS servers to hide their information. I did my best to make sure only the right ones got through. I am not sure if I could have done any better quality control with the time I have but I enjoyed editing 2 of the categories.

Anyway, thanks for your help. Also, can I still request for reinstatement? If I can, any advice on what I should say in the request form?

Thanks

Ofcourse you can keep asking for reinstatement as often as you like. But having 3 request being rejected I doubt this will have any effect.

Note: I have totaly no idea why you weren't accepted and I'm also not an meta editor. I have given only my opinion based on logical thinking.

I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

Remember, this is not just one meta-editor having a cynical day, this was a consensus based on independent review and discussion. That's why it's unlikely to change.
