jmill89 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Hello, Well I wanted to be an editor, but after my second attempt I have been asked not to apply again. I was honest, but it appears the person who reviewed my application didn't think so: Yet again, incomplete response to "Please give details, including URLs, of any sites that you own or have designed or promoted, either in full or in part. Also, mention whether you have contributed content to any site, and give URLs as appropriate". Please do not apply again. I didn't try to hide the company I work for, or the site currently under development that I am responsible for coding, I even gave the URL that the site is being tested at. Those are the only affiliations that I have. For closure, I just want to know what I did that was so horrible? Thanks Jason
jimnoble Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 It would seem that the reviewer had strong grounds for believing that you are connected with rather more websites than you declared.
jmill89 Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 This must be a misunderstanding. I am only affiliated with one website, and it's only up at a test URL, which I gave. I also promised to disclose the final location of that website when that information is available to me. The only other website I could be even remotely considered to be affiliated with is my companies old (but still up) website. However, I have never had anything to do with that website, it was made before I came to the company. I gave the URL for that site on my first application, just because it was relevant to the category I was applying to, and I wanted to be perfectly sure that the reviewer knew that my intentions were genuine. I didn't list that URL on my second application becuase it was a different catagory (I decided on a category that was a hobby of mine instead so there would be no question of ill intent), and I really have nothing to do with that site at all. It would be like listing mcdonalds.com if you worked at McDonalds. So, what can I do about this? I would hate to accept the fact that I can never be an editor because of a misunderstanding. However, I will do as told and not apply again unless a meta told me it was ok. Thanks Jason
jimnoble Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 We're looking for several attributes in a new editor - communications skills (including reading comprehension), attention to detail and integrity. The affiliations question doesn't invite applicants to select or filter which websites they mention; a less than complete answer leads us to think that an applicant has something to hide. By all means try again, but with full disclosure next time.

What if I run many sites? Actually I do. I think it is horrible to list 30 urls.
riz Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I think it is horrible to list 30 urls. You must declare your affiliations, nonetheless.
tobyhudson Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I think it is horrible to list 30 urls. Listing URLs (and descriptions) is what you're applying for anyway! If you find 30 horrible, perhaps you shouldn't be applying to be an editor.
