SearchBliss Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 My site <url removed> has been in the ODP directory for over 3 years now. The description needs be updated, and I submitted the update form a few times over the last year and their was no update. I decided not to push it, out of fear that my site would be removed. Is there a solution or should I just let it go?
jimnoble Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 If the proposed new title or description didn't meet our editor guidelines, they would have been declined - which is an entirely different thing from being ignored.
spectregunner Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 In my experience, more than 95% of all update requests are little more than attempts to keyword stuff the title and/or description, and are thus declined.
DesertJules Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 And 3% are requests to move a site to a category where it does not qualify for listing.
Meta hutcheson Posted December 7, 2005 Meta Posted December 7, 2005 It's like most other unfiltered sources of information on the internet: mostly worthless, sure, but we do get some good suggestions. Even on obscure topics, how many of the top 100 Google results will be listable sites? Is MSN search any better? Ordinary site suggestions are widely known to be 90% or more spam, but the rest amount to dozens of new sites found daily. We don't want to lose these information sources -- low as their S/N ratio is. But the point is, all of them are very unreliable authorities, and we certainly don't want to set any of them up as ANY kind of authority. Just suggestions, that's all. So don't think of it as "they refused to serve me!" or "they're disobeying my command!" It's "I made a suggestion; they'll deal with it on their judgment of its merits, not mine."
geek99 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 are u sure? And 3% are requests to move a site to a category where it does not qualify for listing. I used this site for seo... maybe is not the best, but I did my job with this <url removed> free web tools[/url] site How can I move my site to a proper category??
jimnoble Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 How can I move my site to a proper category?? You can't but we can. Raise an update request. I suggest that you ignore the temptation to amend the title or description at the same time . If your request is sensible, it'll probably happen. If it isn't, it won't.
Meta hutcheson Posted December 11, 2009 Meta Posted December 11, 2009 You can't. You can make a suggestion, and some editor will review the website with that suggestion in mind. What the editor does then, will be controlled by the directory standards, not by the suggestion.
