Hi, I replied to the email which I had to confirm my email address (the one with the key in the subject line) But got a failure back saying:-

Final-Recipient: rfc822;<apply@dmoz.org>

Action: failed

Status: 5.5.2

Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 552 4.4.5 Insufficient disk space; try again later (from

dmoz.org:207.200.81.140)

Has your mail server run out of space? Is it ok to re-reply or does the key expire?

Thanks in advance

I've not heard of any problems recently. Please try again.

The key is valid for several weeks. After that, the system automatically eats the application.

We won't email you. Keep checking this thread or, better yet, check the "The current problem with applications" thread that is currently stickied at the top of the forum. We'll update that thread as soon as the problem has been verifiably fixed.

Hi, I was turned down as I chose a category which was deemed to be too big for a trainee which was in travel. I was advised to apply for one with around 50 or less in it.

I've looked through categories which I feel I am qualified for but the one I feel most suitable for has 62 and is in music. Would this be ok to apply for?

Hi Jim,

The category I would like to apply for is:-

Shopping: Entertainment: Recordings: Audio: Music: Specialty: Urban, Dance, and Electronica: Vinyl (62)

That category has quite a big pool of URLs awaiting review. It's on the large side for a beginner but attainable with an excellent application. The advice given in the sticky threads at the top of this forum should help you to achieve that :) .

Thanks Jim. Unfortunately I submitted it before your reply. I think my application was ok though. I read the guidelines and have strong qualifications for the catagory. I don't suppose we can tell how large the pool is of awaiting review for a section???

Even if we would share that information, it wouldn't be of any use. Any meta editor can review an application in any section and, like site suggestions, can review them in any order.

I think he's asking about the number of unreviewed sites waiting review in the category he applies for - and no, there is no way to find that out. In those cases where that is the decisive factor, I think most of us let the applicant know as a matter of course. It's a drag, being rejected for that reason, but it's worse to be accepted to a category with an overwhelming amount of unreviewed sites, both from the perspective of the directory and for the new editor.

If you applied back when you last posted here (I've merged your threads together), you actually applied on the 4th of January, not the 1st. Come back after Jan. 18 and we'll check on the status.
