MikieMike Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hello, I have submitted ( http://www.barcelonapoint.com ) our multilingual site to only the Spanish and English sections of DMOZ under /Barcelona_City/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/ . It has appeared in the Spanish version quite a long time ago. An editor private messaged me that the english submission had ended up in the German section (probably because the editor who got it had a german language setting on their computer and the site defaulted to it) which I never had not intended at the time. Thus our site is not listed in either german or english. At first I thought maybe it was rejected but we offer quite a few interesting content articles that web users are always checking out like a listing of original version cinemas, festivals, how to get to Barcelona from the major airports and our Google Map of Barcelona. I want to resubmit but I would like to know if I have done something that the editor would rejected my site instead of misplacing it. Please send me your feedback. Thanks

If your site suggestion arrived in a German language category, it's because you suggested it to a German language category. By the way, we prefer to list multilingual sites by their root URL, not by each of the individual language URLs. So barcelonapoint.com is what should be suggested to the English, German, and any other language categories. RE: telling you whether your site was rejected, that would be a status check which we no longer do here in this forum.
MikieMike Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Hi Motsa, The language setting of the editor has nothing at all to do with where a suggested site arrives initially. If your site suggestion arrived in a German language category, it's because you suggested it to a German language category. I don't recall suggesting it to the german category because I haven't checked to make sure that the sight is correctly translated but it was quite a while ago so I could be mistaken. By the way, we prefer to list multilingual sites by their root URL, not by each of the individual language URLs. So barcelonapoint.com is what should be suggested to the English, German, and any other language categories. I am not sure that this is always true because many websites like Barcelona-on-line.com, apartmentsapart.com and others have their sites listed with the language extention as it says the the submission rules. At this moment I can not get the the "add a site" on dmoz.com ( maybe they are doing something at the moment) but I remember that it said you should submit the exact url of the content so if you want to be listed in the german it should be http://www.examle.com/de/ RE: telling you whether your site was rejected, that would be a status check which we no longer do here in this forum. I don't want a check I just want feedback from any editor if they feel that I have not met the guidelines. I don't expect a submission check but a little feedback would be nice. I think something has gone wrong with the submission or the editor's may have conflicting standards like : site submitted http://www.example.com appears in german but has been submitted in english - rejected or moved to somewhere else ; somewhere else editor finds site in spanish - already listed - discarted. I do keep private messages private.

As I said, we prefer to list the root URL as it makes it easier for us to keep track of where the site is listed.
MikieMike Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Take a look at barcelona-on-line.com http://www.dmoz.com/World/Espa%c3%b1ol/Regional/Europa/Espa%c3%b1a/Comunidades_Aut%c3%b3nomas/Catalu%c3%b1a/Barcelona/Barcelon%c3%a8s/Barcelona/Viajes_y_turismo/Alojamiento/Apartamentos/ http://www.dmoz.com/Regional/Europe/Spain/Autonomous_Communities/Catalonia/Barcelona/Barcelona_City/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/ Also our spanish website is with the language extension
MikieMike Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Anyway, our spanish site was listed a year ago and I am at a bit of a loss about the other languages. What is the best thing to do now? I have read a lot of threads and the moderators all say "Wait"... so I will too. We are getting positive feedback from web users so I assume eventually we will be listed unless the language thing is causing problems. But some moderator / editor feedback about our site would make a difference to me.
motsa Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Since you already know (based on the PM that you got from the editor) that your English submission actually went to World/Deutsch, you may want to resubmit it. Then all you can really do is wait. Beyond that, we really don't do site reviews here.
MikieMike Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Ok... I'll try resubmitting. We just got the site translated in French so I have to submit there too. Just hoping that posting my submission experience (first submission in 2004) that someone my look into my case:) As I will never know about the submission status or result (unless I get listed) and I don't care if I never know about what the editors talk about either. I figure that this serves as a type of positive feedback for the dmoz organisation.
MikieMike Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 Before resubmitting I have been reading more threads and now I have a new question: Since I have resubmitted 3 times in 18 months, although one submission with an English description got sent to the german section and most likely discarted because the descritpion didn't match the category, have I been labeled a SPAMMER ??? Also I have checked my category and every new competitor of mine has been listed. Did I break some guideline rule?
bobrat Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Also I have checked my category and every new competitor of mine has been listed. If that were really true, then we are doing a great job, and only one site remains to be reviewed. But I sincerly doubt thats true, since a considerable number await review (one in fact was added today) and I doubt they are all spam Regional: Europe: Spain: Autonomous Communities: Catalonia: Barcelona: Barcelona City: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Vacation Rentals Since I have resubmitted 3 times in 18 months, ...., have I been labeled a SPAMMER ??? Doubtfull, but if the editor is reviewing in submission order, you pushed yourself to the bottom of the heap of suggestions.
MikieMike Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 If that were really true, then we are doing a great job, and only one site remains to be reviewed. Ok maybe I exagerated But I saw all the others there and I guess I am jealous, becuase one day I will be there too, but not envious becuase I am not rejected :icon_ques But I don't think that I will resubmit until march... I don't want to go to the bottom like the bad kid in the class. I will submit the french version soon though.
MikieMike Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 If I did not submit in the right category will I end up there??
Meta hutcheson Posted January 12, 2006 Meta Posted January 12, 2006 You should. If you want a site to end up in a Swahili-language category, you should make sure that (1) the suggested title and description are in Swahili, and (2) A monolingual Swahili-reading editor would be able to find the Swahili-language content. If either of these conditions fails, the suggestion MAY end up in the Tibetan-language category, and get duplicated as a duplicate because you had thoughtfully provided us a Tibetan-language suggestion also. MAY, I said: we often still get it right. But remember that many of our editors are monolingual (or differently multilingual), so any multi-language suggestion may have to go through several editors who cannot communicate with each other. Don't give us the chance to slip up.

I think I'll wait just a bit longer before submitting as many my German friends do speak english I am sure that the English description won't get put into the German category so maybe it got bounced back and is behind in the queue.

MikieMike Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 New Resubmission Question Hello Again, The situation: We have recently expanded our Barcelona Guide to include more information about the city events and things to do also our services are now expanding to other parts of Catalonia to help users find other holiday and cultural events. The questions: Could my submission be delayed because I submitted to http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Spain/Autonomous_Communities/Catalonia/Barcelona/Barcelona_City/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/ ? Could I have my submission moved to To http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Spain/Autonomous_Communities/Catalonia/Barcelona/Travel_and_Tourism/ ? Should I resubmit instead? Thanks.
