I submitted allfreethings.com to Computers/Internet/WWW/Free_Stuff/Link_Pages on 2/24/02 (a category with no editor). Can you tell me the status and backlog?

Thanks, Joe

Hmmm... You should already have received feedback about the site when you submitted it last year.

To me it looks as if you should reread ODP guidelines about "affiliate links" and not listing sites that primarily consist of them.

And something not related: I for myself hate site doing popups, popunders and so on. Not very good style /images/icons/frown.gif

Cheering in the background!!!

<warning: useful information, but expressed somewhat emotionally. You might call it a "rant">

I have some personal standards about sites I accept. I do not accept sites that do popunders. End of story. I hate popups, but at least they're obviously associated with the site I'm visiting. But popunders and exit popups -- I despise the attitude that says you can do something you know most users despise, so long as they don't notice until after you're gone. (It's like saying murder is bad, but a drive-by shooting is all right.)

Now, that's not generally the ODP standard (BUT NOTE WELL--SOME CATEGORIES DO HAVE SOME SUCH STANDARD!), and so when I refuse to list such sites, I don't delete them either. I leave them with a note saying something like "inflicts popunders on hapless visitors" for someone else to review....later, perhaps much later....if they have a stronger stomach.

windharp - thanks for checking for me. I don't recall receiving any feedback. Regarding your comments, I should explain a few things:

In reply to:

To me it looks as if you should reread ODP guidelines about "affiliate links" and not listing sites that primarily consist of them.

Of the 1169 links in my directory, only 61 (about 5%) are affiliate links. The description for the category I applied to states: "The following sites will not be considered for addition: 1) Any collection of more than 50% "Sponsor" or paid links". I beleive my site has less affiliate link than most sites in the category.

In reply to:

I for myself hate site doing popups, popunders and so on. Not very good style

I can agree with you there, and I have removed all of the popunders from my site. The only popup is my newsletter sub, which only pops once every 6 months per visitor.

Can you tell me if my site still in the queue, as I beleive it does meet the criteria of the category description.

Thanks, Joe
