SmashinYoungMan Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 In my last awstats update, I noticed that under the referring search engines section DMOZ was listed as one of the referrers (four times to be exact). Does this mean someone found my site by searching DMOZ directly from the ODP site? The site is http://www.spacebuffs.com, which I only recently submitted, but I can't find it listed in the ODP anywhere despite the referrals. Mind you, DMOZ was listed as a referring search engine, not a referring site.
Meta hutcheson Posted January 17, 2006 Meta Posted January 17, 2006 I'm not a big believer in referrals. Since they can be easily spoofed, they don't PROVE anything. Yes, searching at dmoz.org is one possibility; another is merely editors reviewing the site.

I thought maybe that if an editor ever visited the site, it would be a site referral, not a search engine one. Then again, as you say, awstats isn't foolproof. It's just the first time I've ever seen "DMOZ" anywhere in awstats on any of my sites, after a couple of years of submitting a few different sites. Being that it happened with my new site which is my pride and joy, I got a little excited, I guess.
SmashinYoungMan Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 My site was listed after all. At least, the forum on my site was - which is why I couldn't find it in the category I expected. I'm quite pleased, to say the least.
