Email from ODP - Can't find your authentication ticket

However, with ALL the technical issues the ODP servers have been having I am asking you to at least review the last email I received from ODP on Jan. 12th and tell me if I should REAPPLY or not.

I originally applied for an editor's position on December 20, 2005. I never received a confirmation email so I reapplied on Jan. 9, 2006.

On Jan 9th, after applying the second time I got this email:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////

INSTRUCTIONS - please read and follow carefully.

To complete your application process, please reply to this message.

This will confirm that we have your correct email address.

Do not change the Subject: line -- it contains your registration key.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

As instructed, I replied to the email.

On the 10th, I got this:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:

apply@dmoz.org

Message will be retried for 2 more day(s)

Technical details of temporary failure:

TEMP_FAILURE: Could not initiate SMTP conversation with any hosts:

[editors.dmoz.org. (10): Connection refused]

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

On the 12th, I received this TWICE:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:

apply@dmoz.org

Message will be retried for 1 more day(s)

Technical details of temporary failure:

TEMP_FAILURE: Could not initiate SMTP conversation with any hosts:

[editors.dmoz.org. (10): Connection refused]

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Then later on the 12th, I received this:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////

Open Directory Project <daemon@dmoz.org>

Your Open Directory editor application could not be confirmed.

The error received was:

Can't find your authentication ticket

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

It looks as if the technical issues killed my application.

Therefore,... my question is simple.

Should I reapply now?

Sincerely,

Angela Smith

No need :)

Mr. Noble,

I am hoping that your answer means that ODP has my application and I should just wait for a decision.

I will take it as meaning that and wait another 9 days.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Angela Smith

If you get an email like that (telling you that the authentication ticket couldn't be found) it usually means that it has already been authenticated. That happens frequently in cases where problems on either end causes the confirmation responses to get sent to us multiple times -- once one of the confirmation responses gets through, the authentication ticket is purged (and the application is in our pool waiting to be reviewed) and all subsequent responses will result in the error that you got.

Motsa,

Thank you kindly for your reply and explanation. I do appreciate your time and effort.

I will wait the obligatory time to see the status of my application.

Sincerley,

Angela Smith

I applied on Jan. 9th.

I understand it may take a while to review, but could someone please check to make sure you have my application since I applied around the time of the server problems?

Thank you,

Angela
