JerryOdom Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Good day all, I just received my letter informing me that I was not approved for editorship and I'd like to find out what I apparently didn't disclose. Here are the reviewer comments: Thank you very much for your application. The ODP relies on enthusiastic volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately it appears that you have not fully disclosed your affiliated websites. Affiliated websites include those that you own, market, assist with, have written content for, maintain, etc. I encourage you to apply again, being sure to more fully disclose your affiliations. I was pretty sure I disclosed every website that was important in recent times as I've been working in IT for near 10 years. I must've missed some you guys felt was relevant to the application and I can't even remember every site I've had to work with in my career. I applied under the id: jodom2 for category: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Louisiana/Localities/B/Baton_Rouge/Business_and_Economy/Restaurants_and_Bars/ This is a subject I know alot about. As a very experienced IT person I feel I could really help out at the ODP. If someone could "help me help you" I'd love to get the application good so I can contribute.
motsa Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 I was pretty sure I disclosed every website that was important in recent times...I haven't looked at your specific application (because we don't discuss specific applications rejections here) but the phrase I quoted of yours seems to imply that you were somewhat selective about the sites you declared as affiliations. To rectify that, you would need to ensure that you declare all affiliated sites, not just the ones that you think are important in recent times.
jimnoble Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 We don't discuss the details of individual applications. I'm not sure how we can help you to remember the websites you've been involved with anyway. By all means try again, but don't try to decide which websites are 'important ones' and omit others. The evaluating meta editor may well think that you're trying to conceal them and wonder why.
JerryOdom Posted April 3, 2006 Author Posted April 3, 2006 To rectify that, you would need to ensure that you declare all affiliated sites, not just the ones that you think are important in recent times. This is where it gets problematic for me because I really don't know what the meta editor was talking about. I must post on a dozen+ mesageboards and work on countless different websites each year.(slightly off topic: the way I ended up at resource zone and then applying for editorship is seeing Jim post at another popular webmaster forum and it led me here) This week our company has new domains I have to work on so now I'm affiliated with that. I would literally have to upload a spreadsheet to cover all those bases and someone could still probably easily dig something up I've long forgotten about. I want to re-apply but I'm fairly sure I'd be turned down again for not listing all my affiliations. I would be happy to list my primary affiliations and discuss any other affiliations with a meta editor if that would be enough? None of my business affiliations have anything to do with the category I applied for as its local to my home town.
motsa Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 A good faith effort to be as complete as possible would go over fairly well. I would literally have to upload a spreadsheet to cover all those bases That would probably qualify as a good faith effort.
JerryOdom Posted April 4, 2006 Author Posted April 4, 2006 A good faith effort to be as complete as possible would go over fairly well. That would probably qualify as a good faith effort. haha. Ok I'll do what I can. I set to work on it lastnight and I'll re-submit tonight. cheers.
shabda Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 If I am applying for say some_locality>universities>... do I really need to tell my affiliations with a totally un realated web site. With being on the net for so many years, even I cannot remember what are the sites I am affiliated with.
Meta shadow575 Posted April 6, 2006 Meta Posted April 6, 2006 If I am applying for say some_locality>universities>... do I really need to tell my affiliations with a totally un realated web site. With being on the net for so many years, even I cannot remember what are the sites I am affiliated with. Short answer is yes. As was already mentioned above: A good faith effort to be as complete as possible would go over fairly well. More information regarding this can be found in the Conflicts of Interest Guidelines. Hope that helps.
