mark200 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 When someone becomes an editor of a catagory are they allowed accept their own web site submission. This just came to my mind because I applied to become editor of this catagory a few days ago (for the second time): http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Ireland/Dublin/Municipalities/Dublin_City/Business_and_Economy/Computers_and_Internet/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/ I also have a website submission in there since almost a week now. I presume one of the reasons it hasn't been accepted yet (presuming it'll be accepted) is the fact that there is currently no editor in that catagory. So is it against the rules/guidelines for editors to accept their own site submissions. I had a quick scan through them again and the guidelines do say something along the lines of "editors can not treat their sites any differently........". To me that says they're allowed accept, but I'd just like to post here to double check?
Meta windharp Posted June 6, 2006 Meta Posted June 6, 2006 To me that says they're allowed accept, but I'd just like to post here to double check? Yes, they are allowed to. If, as you have already read, they treat other sites equally. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Meta hutcheson Posted June 6, 2006 Meta Posted June 6, 2006 There is one important detail here. Note carefully what it does NOT say: "treat other SUGGESTED sites fairly, but you can let the unsuggested sites rot in obscurity." It's all the sites, suggested or googled or linked or printed or however you can find them. If you can do that fairly (and many people can) you'll be a great contributor. Some high-level editors started out by listing all the competitors they could find in their home town...then county...then state. Was their own site listed first? or fiftieth? If they're reviewing a few hundred sites a month, no honest person could possibly care! We could use a thousand more editors like that.
