Editall/Catmv arubin Posted June 16, 2006 Editall/Catmv Posted June 16, 2006 Can someone be listed to two separate categories in ODP? The person at the top of one of my search terms is listed in different categories. I don't really see why not... Sometimes, but, in general, it would be wrong for you to suggest a site to more than one category. (There are exceptions; the most common is a site may be listed in a topical category (other than Regional) and in Regional for each language the site has unique content in.
charlesleo Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 Well - it wasn't me. I'm still waiting to be listed. But saw someone for modeling AND an architectural renderings category.
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted June 17, 2006 Editall/Catmv Posted June 17, 2006 I should add that editors may decide that a site fits in two or more unrelated categories; just that sites should only be suggested to the one, best category (with the exception above, and maybe one or two others, as specified in the documentation.) If you feel a site is listed in two (or more) related categories, or if a site doesn't fit the category it's listed in, you may use the "Update Listing" button in that category or use the [thread=5453] Report Hijacks, Dead Links, Inappropriate ODP Content, and other issues here ONLY[/thread] in the Quality Control forum.
charlesleo Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 in general, it would be wrong for you to suggest a site to more than one category. I see what you are saying. But could I submit my work - let's say 3d stuff to the following examples: 1) A Massachusetts business category 2) a 3D art category 3) a 3D gallery category 4) an architectural rendering category 5) a 3D modeling category These are all valid descriptors of my work and are equal weight in a sense. I'm not trying to be deceitful - that's why I am asking here.
bobrat Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 It would be ok to submit to [1] plus the best one of [2-5]. Leave it to an editor as to whether additional listings are ok (you might make a polite suggestion in your second submission) and let the editor add them. Making 5 submissions to five categoires would be spamming.
WRMineo Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Examples of multiple listings IMdB, topix and a few others would be a good example of "justified" mutiple listings I'd think?
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted June 19, 2006 Editall/Catmv Posted June 19, 2006 IMdB, topix and a few others would be a good example of "justified" mutiple listings I'd think? Yes -- although there has been some discussion of whether topix is a good example. (Note: I'm not revealing internal forum information -- I was one of the editors questioning whether the topix deeplinks should have been added.)
WRMineo Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Yes -- although there has been some discussion of whether topix is a good[/u"] example. I was using that one as an example of what currently exists in the OPD without an implied agreement on my part or quality of an example on DMOZ's - but thanks.
